Ok, Im a tropical kinda guy. I hope im not rushing into looking at the marine side, I have only been in to fish keeping a couple of months. But anyhow, I have a 95ltr tank, 35l and a 40l.

I was thinking of selling my 35l and my 40l and SLOWLY start buying marine equipment for the 95ltr. I would only want 2-3 fish with a couple of snails and maybe a shrimp.

What do you think?? I know 95ltr is not advised for a marine tank, but its seriously the biggest I can fit in my room.

Nano....Nano
Well mines only a 85 ltr

Wow, yours looks AMAZING!
Do you think im rushing in to this marine, or do many people do marine before they even do tropicals?
I wouldnt be able to have a sump, so would I have to use an external filter and replace the balls with live rubble?

Trod had no experience at all of any fish keeping and she jumped straight in to the salty side - just ask lots of questions, do mega amounts of reading and planning - get yourself a notebook and start planning, research, saving up and buying your bits is half the fun :good:

Well thats certainly made me feel more good about it.
I am thinking of using the Elite Style 95.
However im not sure if this is possible as the lighting.
So would I need a new lid?

No I dont think you are racing into things by going down the marine route first. I know many a good aquarist who have never touched Tropicals.
A no sump system is fine but you will feel the need for one in the future. Liverock will need light for it to remain live so best not suited to a canister filter. You can however still use you canister for Phosphate removal agents and such like.
Anymore questions then just ask

So if I dont have a sump, and a cannister is not recommend.
Is there any other filteration methods?
Im thinking around 25-50kg of live rock, that sound about right?
I am going to do a ton of reading up first but definatly agree with seffie that its half the fun.
Is there any good websites you recommend?
I am just wondering around this forum at the moment looking at it.
Carnt seem to find any journals that are tanks like mine though, which is a shame.

Well, you are right about the lighting, would only be good enough for lr and fish - have you already got this tank or is that just an example of the size?

If it is the example of size - I would be looking for a 125/126 litre tank either the juwel 125 with t5 high light tubes or one of the nano tanks, Orca, D & D etc.

If you want corals then the lighting is not good enough  on the elite

pps you consider selling all your tanks and buying a more suitable one

I already have the Elite Style 95.
The problem is its the biggest I can fit in.
Its on a cabinet (well supported).
Could I not change the bulb for somthing that is suitable for corals?
Or is it just the hood all together that is no good for corals etc.

Live rock

Too much - iv'e got 20 k in a 126 litre, having too much is as bad as having too little

Yes, this one

Enjoy

It's probably because the lighting is not up to much for a marine tank!

So the live rock works as a filter?
Wow.
I will carry on looking around here.
Seffie, you dont realise what you have got yourself in to,
your going to get bombarded with questions from me.
Hope you dont mind!
So is it not possible to change my bulb to somthing that would work?

You can modify the hood to suit a particular type of lighting.
But I would go with an open top and a small pendant either T5 or Metal Halide depending on you chosen route.
Do you wish to keep coral now or eventually?

Well to be fair I think it would be best to get set up with everything I will need,
for now and the future.
As im not to fussed about them now, but sure I will want them in the future.
Urgh, Im worried about this.
Im not a very "practical" kid.
And my dad is just a stress head.
So I can see me having some problems with the hood.
Would anyone be so kind to give me a list of equipment I would need,
and what they would recommend.
So how much LR, Powerheads (how many), etc etc.

yep, get yourself a little arcadia unit with T5 tubes in - clips on the tank, hangs or fixes to the wall :good:

I will look into that.
How would I go about customizing the hood?
Wow, I see the 20 notes going already.
:p

First of all I am after the essentails.
Powerheads etc etc.
So could anyone recommend them to me?
Im going to get them off fleabay, my LFS prices are so overpriced,
on everything.
