Rare Fish Owners

My rarest fish is probably my platinum senegalus.

DSC04348.jpg

I also had a sturgeon catfish (see signature) for a while, but had to give it away since it got too big for my tank (damn whiskers!).

Other weirdos and hard-to-find species:
6 x Geophagus sp. "Red Head" Tapajos (took me over a year to find a group of youngsters)
1 x Coius microlepis --- tiger dat
1 x Flagtail Prochilodus
1 x Rhinodoras sp.
1 x Polypterus ornatipinnis (hard to find around here)

The last fish I would classify as rare would be my catfish in the 125gl that no one has been able to identify. I've had him since last October and there still isn't a definite ID. (here is the old thread I originally posted pics on: catfish)

Just back from the BLA spring auction so will add to the list a little selection that are not too big to fit into that 10 gallon, that will not bite, sting or puff, that are hopefully not impossible to keep, but which are not going to be found in your lfs either:

xiphophorus evelynae- very nice speckled gold wild(ish) platy, with a x. variatus type body shape

phallichthys fairweatheri- beautiful colours and sheen to their bodies

2 pairs of pygmy swordtails, one of which came with a location, so presumably wild caught

i have a Distichodus affinis. never seen one before or since in my lfs'.he's so cute

I Dont like to Brag and make you all jealous but I have:

.......
4x Brachygobius xanthozona

How are these! I used to own them, my partner nearly left me over all the tanks and they had to go, but went to a good home...I miss them :-(

Opps forgot they are Pristolepis fasciata, Pristolepis grootii and Pristolepis marginata!

Totally rare!

Tbh i havent kept anything that rare but i have kept/ have at the moment:
Green Spotted Puffers
Figure 8 Puffs
Dwarf Puffers
Columbian Cat sharks (only reached 6 inches, then my stupid cousin turnt off the electricity...and you can guess te rest :( lost my hole brackish tank occupants, the GSP's, breeding pair of knight gobies..the temp dropped to 10 degrees celcius lol!)
Tyre track eel (got to 20")
Peacock Spiny eel (currently only 3")
Senegal Bichirs (had a 7" and now ahev a 2.5" baby)
Rainbow Snakehead
Caecillian worm (curently 14")

Last but not least, i think these are pretty cool... my H.Reidi Seahorses! (even though tey aint FW :p )

Not really rare. Maybe rare in the hobby.

Channa Ornatipinnis
Hoplias Sp. Black (Black Wolffish)
T. Baileyi Pair (Hairy Puffers)
Mormyrops anguilloides
Cephalosilurus fowleri

I don't know how rare these are since they are native but, I don't know anaybody that has kept many of these.

1. Shrimp eel (Ophichthus gomesii)
2. Skilletfish (Gobiesox stromosus)
3.Pygmy Filefish (Stephanolepis setifer)
4. Sargassum Frogfish (Histrio histrio)
5. Spotted Seatrout (Cynoscion nebulosus)
6.Dwarf Mono (Monodactylus kottelati)

My shrimp Eel was awsome, my parents killed it. They put it in the freezer because I had to many B's. Wicked intelligent fish, ate from my hand and would squirt water of people when it was hungry. As difficult as people say snake eels are, they are better than morays since they hide less. Even when they are buried they watch you!

They put it in the freezer because I had to many B's.
So, because you didn't do perfectly in school, your parents to their time to catch one of your fish and put it in the freezer to punish you? My goodness, how sick. Really really sick. :grr:

On a side note, I have a new rare fish: Polypterus teugelsi. :hyper: A very rare bichir that I have yet to get a nice picture of.

hmm.... too many B's, that's quite disturbing that your parents would do such a thing. Hope they don't stick you in there next.

That is really disturbing that your parents would kill an animal just because you got B's. Especially your pet.

I'd be pleased if my son got B's, it would certainly be more than i ever acheived at school.
