Rare Fish Owners

I think CFC and I have just ruined it for the rest of you. Sorry :)

Hey CFC at least i used common names where possible. Its gonna take people months to work out what you kept :hyper:

No you have not as most of the fish people have listed they could actually keep the fish you listed you cant anyone can go and buy a gator gar and a pacu but can they home it thats the question.

but can they home it thats the question.

I am guessing no. Personally I don't think owning fish like RTCs, alligator gars and pacus is much to be proud of unless you can house them properly in a massive tropical pond.

I personally think that T1K and CFC have the most impressive list as they can actually house such large fish, CFC in particular as he is one of very few people that could house his very large fish (such as his silver aro, a fish many people have unfortunately but cannot house) for life.

Where's your list though Mark? :shifty:

rtc,pacu and gars are not rare anyway
they are in some parts of the world. We're not allowed to bring them into our country.

Well if they don't impress you then perhaps my Lepidogalaxias salamandroides will. There are only 8 in captivity throughout the world, and I have them. Come on I have to get points for that :) And it's a prehistoric fish that's been around for millions of years. And they aestivate underground during summer because there is no water. An ancient fish with a neck that lives without water for 6 months of the year, that's a pretty special fish.

I'm still kinda new to fish keeping and my rarest fish is a clown pleco. Not rare by most standars but not common in my area. In the two years I've been keeping fish I've only seen them once an one store in this area. Needless to say that's when I got it

Okay, here's my pathetic list:

Tiretrack Eel
Elephant Nose
Dwarf Puffer
Bronze Puffer (Auriglobus Modestus)- Very rare
Fire Eel
Sengal Bichir
Banded Leporinus (looks cool)

and soon....

Golden Puffer (Auriglobus Silus): EXTREMELY rare

Sorry Guys, Snakeheads, fw rays, pikes and other fish are illegal in CA....

This is what I have that might qualify, but they are not big fish, don't bite or sting:

and these are not rare, just usually found only from hobbyists and not shops:

Nice zebra plec!

Don't want to point fingers but some of you aren't posting fish remotely rare :rolleyes:
I think Colin wins on most rarest fish, and CFC on number of rare fishes :blink: :lol:

As others have posted some of these heres my list:

Cichlasoma pearsei
Senegal Bichir
Tateurndina ocellicauda
White parrot cichlid, hybrid
They are rare I suppose, although you can get a senegal from anywhere.
I've owned pangasius shark catfishes which arn't rare at all, but grow massive.

does it count if they're neither large nor aggressive, but just... rare?

neoheterandria elegans only made it into Baensch 4

as did phallichthys tico

apparently they're quite rare in the wild too

Less impressive, but a good deal more unusual than your arowanas or pacus. And there should be some real rarities coming up at the livebearer auction in Corby on March 16 (slaver, slaver).

Let's see those fish that you own that you have never seen sold, that are too big to fit in the 10G, that can sting, bite, or puff, that are a random awesome color, and are impossible to keep unless you are a true expert aquarist!!!! I'm not sure I have any right now, but feel free to share yours!

I have a Chinese Hi-Fin Shark, And 2 Large Butterfly Fish

Ok a lot of these arent exactly rare, some are very hard to track down though.

Corydoras: (Callichthyins)
==========
3 Corydoras Zygatus

Other Catfish:
===============
1 Synodontis Ocellifer
1 Pimelodus Orantus

Cichlids:
=========
3 Satanoperca leucosticta

Odd Balls:
==========
2 Polyterus senegalus
1 Polypterus delhezi
1 Polypterus endlicheri endlicheri
1 Fire eel - Mastacembelus erythrotaenia
1 Dwarf Snakehead - Channa gaucha
1 Rainbow Snaked - Channa bleheri
1 Siamese Tigerfish - Datnioides microlepis (hopefully got another 7 coming soon)
1 Flagtail Prochilodus

As for bountyhunter3423, I hope you dont like in the UK, as Chinese Hi-Fin Sharks are Illegal here... although i have seen them on import lists

My current list of freshwater fish that aren't so common in my area (they may be in other areas though):

Polypterus delhezi
Synodontis batesii
Chuco godmanni
Katria katria
Synodontis flavitaeniatus
Caquetaia spectabilis
True Heros Severus

Pretty pathetic list, but that's about it. All my oddballs are pretty common, few shops even had the fish I wanted on the order list. All the other shops wouldn't order them because they said couldn't buy just one and they wouldn't be able to sell the remaining fish.
