Pure Evil!

Animal cruelty. Such ashame. Doesn't make you feel ashamed to be a part of the human race?

"No animals were harmed in the making of this skit" WHAT? What sick excuses for human beings. Why would anyone thing something as undenyably cruel as that be fun?

:X did you actually see them fighting? I turned it off quick when you saw them put the bowl in the ring! :(

I can not get the video to load, but it doesn't matter; I've seen kids do this countless times before. Several of the fish I rescued were nearly killed by the wounds they sustained when placed with another fish. Yes, bettas have an instinctive drive to fight with other males... but it is a drive that has been enhanced for the perverse pleasures of man by selectively breeding for agression. Bettas in the wild fight over territory. The loser can submit and vacate the premises. But when two males are placed in a confined space, unable to escape one another's wrath, for prolonged periods of time... death can and will result.
I always find supportive views of fish fighting eerily reminiscent of dog and cock fighting; that they "love" it, that it is what they were "born" to do, that being fought is "in thier nature." Well, I don't see anything natural about pitting two animals bred for agression against one another in a situation they can not escape, a situation that would never present itself out in "nature." While I am well aware that in some countries, it is a careful process and the fish are removed before being severely harmed, I can not see the logic in supporting such an exploitative practice, as it often misleads others into thinking it is acceptable without proper knowledge of how to minimize severe injuries.
In an ideal world, no animal would be harmed for human entertainment. But apparently, this is far from an ideal world...

This is disturbing on many levels :-(

92.5 kzps is a Dallas/Fort Worth station, so this is obviously quite local -_-

ETA, I found his profile, he's in Southlake. Isn't there any way to report a video off of youtube?

How does YouTube handle inappropriate content?
Our community understands the terms of use and effectively polices the site for inappropriate content (similar to other open internet communities such as eBay and craigslist). Their vigilance combined with our proprietary technology helps us to enforce our community standards.
Yet, no contact number. They DO have a fax number..

I don't even want to click on the link, as I hate stuff like this, it makes my blood boil.

Ah, now that's just sad. :/

They bought the fish specifically to make this video, they were still in their blue water and store cups. Dirty cups, too. It looked like they were too shocked to actually fight after being introduced to the bowl. And what that kid did at the end to the blue VT was just disgusting.

Real betta fighters I can respect.

This?

*sigh*

And I stop, before I begin preaching to the choir.

I wrote an email to KZPS, the station that sponsored it and said

I think the video of extreme betta fighting was tasteless and vulgar. Maybe they are looked at as "just fish" but they are living creatures. True, their instinct is to fight, but that doesn't mean the "reasonably intelligent" humans who possess them should put them in a situation where it can harm them. I see it as nothing short of animal abuse.

They are owned by Clear Channel Communications which is a huge media conglomerate with little regard for anything other $$$$.

A darn shame.

I'm thinking that the banner is just room decor, but that's just my second impression (first was, kzps? no freakin' way this involves them!) But I plan on forwarding a link as soon as I can get someone on the phone.
and that number would be 214-787-1925, and the office number is 214-866-8000
but they won't be in until Monday. If they have nothing to do with it, maybe they can at least get the video pulled.

What is sad about this video is that it is in complete odds with the practice in Thailand and SE Asia. The two fish were VT and would never be fought in countries where fighting bettas (in its ideal form) is a practice where fish are carefully bred, champion bloodlines maintained, fish properly trained and conditioned, and injured fish are cared for, not brutally destroyed. I am no expert, but I have read several articles on the practice and know several people who fight bettas on a professional level. Their fish are treated very well, and while I personally wouldn't enjoy watching two bettas fight each other, I respect that other culture's employ this as a form of sport and entertainment.

This video is digusting and sick. I didn't even bother watching the rest, as soon as the bettas were displayed, I turned it off. Why give a website any more hits? It certainly doesn't deserve them. Somebody should take the morons who made this video, confine them to a little mat, and watch them try to kill each other, but somehow, I think they'd enjoy it. Stupid people! Makes me quite mad.

I'm glad I didn't watch it :/

I have to say (I'm sure some of you may wish I'd shut up about the subject but....), it doesn't matter if the fish involved are veil tailed untrained fighters or if they are plakats trained to the max. Either way the fish end up getting hurt. It doesn't matter if the humans who do this are doing this for kicks on a whim or if it's something their society has been doing for kicks for hundreds of years. Either way the fish either get hurt or die (and don't try to fool yourself that no fish die even if the owner "trains" them...).

I said it once and I'll say it again, cruelty is cruelty and there is no excuse for it. Just because you've been doing something wrong for a hundred years doesn't make it right.
