Auchenoglanis occidentalis, unlike what that link you posted says have a maximum size of 28" I think? Though that is wild size, see here, so they could well be smaller in captivity(?).

Ah ha, thats more like the size i was originally thinking of for them. Although Baensch is saying 45cm.

Silver Dollars are nice while small and young, but they do become ugly fish when older. if you want SD type fish go for redhooks.

As paul said about the Giraffe nose catfish it would be too big, but the fish you showed is a dwarf Giraffe nose, again we hit the wall of common nams

The latest list is more in your experience range i would imagine. But keep in mind if the terrors pair up and spawn your gonna have a lot of injures to your other fish.

:good:

Yeah, I wanted to get a pair of Green Terrors in the tank. And about the Silver Dollars, I've read that Redhooks can get to 16", so A, too big, and B, I really want to get Silver Dollars.

Should I add more Clown Loaches, or would it be overcrowding?

red hooks grow to the same size as SDs  not 16"...

99% of these type threads dont even end up happening in the real world so i will wait for tank pics

thats a nice tank u got there.

out of curiosity have u decided where to get it. to find a tank that size its rly hard (well in the US) unless u have a rly awesome lfs.

225 gallon??

I thought it was 450?

Seems to have changed for the third time...

And a 225 gallon tank with that stock really wouldn't impress me (IMO!)

Go for a species setup :good:

Goodluck on it will be awsome if it's set up...Not as awsome as my 270 though :p

Totally awesome news!!!!!!!

You know how the 225 was fairly expensive, ($2,500!!!), well I was searching some more and found a tank (240 gallon) that costs only $1,800 from the same site! 2 feet longer, 15 gallons more, and $700 less than a 225!!! :yahoo: !!!!

The 240 is 96x18x30" or 8x1.5x2.5'!!!!

It'll be an 8 foot tank!!!

Since I still have to earn up the money for it, I should have enough moolah for it by next June :hyper: !!

Oh, yeah?

Since I've upped the tank size to a 240, I've done some re-thinking about the stocking:
  • Black Ghost Knifefish x1
  • Silver Dollar x5
  • Redhook x8
  • Surniame Geo x4
  • Senegal Bichir x1 Pair
  • L128 Blue Phantom Pleco x1
  • L200 Green Phantom Pleco x1
  • Needle Nose Gar x1
  • Green Terror x1 Pair
  • Clown Loach x8
What do you think?

I think the green terrors will kill off half your tank. Plus thats a fairly boring tank. If youre going 240 then you should probably get something interesting/unusual. How about a different species of bichir, and maybe some larger cichlids and catfish. Personally what i would do is stock my tank up about halfway with fish i really like, then leave it open so when you find something really nice you have room for it. I wish I would have done that instead of adding fish that I didnt really like that much.
