Planned Fry Journal Just For Fun :)

I doubt a 3 week old fry is big enough to eat a new fry. They'll be hiding well.

I would hope not! They are bigger than my platy fry, quite long and almost tetra sized. There's only 1 newborn so he could be anywhere. The other is still in the main tank lol. I get to the point where I put it in danger chasing it around with a turkey baster so I left it alone!
The platy fry are getting very brave, i'm so proud! One of them looks like he has a mohawk, black spots all along his back and head! So funny looking. They have started getting very fat so obv eating well!

Thanks :) it just irritates me that the leaves underneath are all going brown and the top ones are still green-i'm suddenly jinxed, I can't seem to be able to keep plants alive anymore. Yes I even managed to kill anubias which is apparently indestructible :p

I have some good news and some bad news.
Good news:
I found about 20 more fry in the main tank so just caught them and put them into the fry tank. The 3 week old guppy fry as you can see are quite big so it was release day into the main tank! I think there are 13.

The bad news is, the female who had the fry is suffering. These pics show how distressed she is, she can't even swim upright.

The others have started to pick on her so they know something is wrong. I have taken the decision to end her suffering and euthanise her.

I spent this morning rearranging the fry tank. The filter was chugging so had to give the pads a little wash in some tank water. Turned the flow right down too.

I have counted 15 fry. None of the fry are black, they are light grey so it will be interesting to see who the dad was this time and what colours they will turn out!

Some more pics.
Here is momma platy, as you can see she is huge! I will expect her to give birth soon. I will need to leave her in the main tank since I have the guppy fry in the other one and they are always out in the open!

Sorry to hear of your loss.  It did look like she would have not recovered.  :(

Thanks for the pics Ny!  I keep peeking here and there but may not post all the time.  Looks like they are coming along nicely!

It's ok, it's always hard having to make such a decision but it was for the best.

Lol that's fine! That's like me, I drop by on everyones posts to see how they are all getting on!

I keep trying to get pics of the very first batch of guppy fry, they are so friendly and social, that they get excited and come to the top, zipping about every time I go near the tank!

This is the one with red on his tail (my lighting is rubbish!)

The filter in my fry tank is really doing my head in with the chugging. I cleaned it with tank water yesterday, it was quiet for a while but back to the chugging. Think it's time to change the cartridges, I always have a panic when it comes to changing them in case I cause a spike but if I change one at a time I should be fine.

It will be interesting to see how the Guppy fry pattern up Ny, especially the twin bar.

Thanks Pete. They are taking ages!!! It's almost 4 months now, they are only just getting there colours. I don't remember fry ever taking this long! Maybe because they were all gold. I am used to dark or half black.

I'm talking rubbish again. I think because I moved here in Feb I thought they were that old.
Batch 1 were born around the 24th of april so that makes them only 2 months old. There are about 13. I didn't breed them. They are only just getting colour!
Batch 2 are the 2 platies who I bred. Born around the 19th of may. They are 5 weeks old. Momma platy is ready to drop again.
Batch 3 are the half blacks who were born around the 31st of may. That makes them 3 weeks tomorrow. I bred them from my black male. I thought there were 13, but I think there's 10.
Batch 4 are the ones I found on the 17th so they are roughly 3 days old. I didn't know she was going to drop and I actually think it's both the cobra tail and the half black females. They are too small to count I keep losing track I think there's about 20.

Wow that's a lot of fry! No wonder I can't keep up. I am getting confused in my old age. However, if anyone would like to donate a big calender my way-please feel free
