I wouldn't know where to start with tropical fish, my mum has kept coldwater all her life so I learned a lot from her... would love to breed coldwater but can't find any info on it.  My mum's fish have never bred, strangely enough.

That's a start then. I think with coldwater, a lot of people put the wrong type of fish for their tanks. The most common one being a goldfish in a small tank. I did it too, as a kid had a goldfish in a bowl. Died at just 5 years old. Now we have all this knowledge.
Read the beginners section, it's crammed full of very useful info that will point you in the right direction. Do you have a tank at the moment?

Nothing big enough yet, not until I get my 125 litre... I'm planning ahead :)

Thanks, I'll go look now :)

That's the best thing to do. Then when the time comes, you will be clued up on how to go about starting.

I spotted this on eBay too but notice it is much smaller than it looks.
Length x Width x Height
5.25" x 4" x 4.5"
13cm x 10cm x 11.5cm

The combined length is just 21 cm for both containers.

Oh I didn't notice that!  Thanks for pointing that out Daize!

Right on Mamashack... :)

Suppose that's why I only have 2 baby plates. They were the toughest!

Haha pop socks it is :p

^^^ baby plates? hahahahahahaha! Just realised my typo lol

I must have had one of my infamous senior moments! I am totally in love with my half black babies! I still don't have any colour on the first fry! It's so frustrating! I am so impatient but guppies take so long to colour up! I hate the wait.
Unless they are all gold females...

This why I prefer a breeding colony set up, so much going on with fish at different ages and stages of development its hard to keep track sometimes. Always something new and exiting too see, colours and behaviour.

Anyone who thinks Guppies are boring should try keeping them this way, the only way imo.

I just started with the pregnant females and the black male. The females died so I got my black females. I thought I saw a black fry in the main tank-it's possble! If it is, I am not trying to catch it. More hassle than it's worth!

I have just noticed one of the baby platies has a black spot on it. Just one on the top lol. But of course when I try and see what it is-he swims away at the speed of light
evilmad.gif
I will leave him be lol.

It's the markings coming through already! They were born pink. They are 2 weeks old and they are chunks. They both have a black spot at the base of the dorsal fin-they are twins! So excited!
Don't even ask for pics! They move so fast and hide when they see me so that will be some achievement! *gets camera out* :p

So my white platy fry are getting more black dots! They are going to look just like mum! Maybe in the next drop or the next generation if I breed back to mum, they will be completely white! I am so excited lol I do apologise for sounding like a maniac. The fry are almost 3 weeks old now and come out to play and chase the guppy fry! I am dying to put them into the main tank. They are very good at hiding if need be. Maybe next week.
I put "white platy" into google and there's 1 pic of a pure white platy and she has blue eyes and 2 pics of a white mickey mouse platy who also has blue eyes so it must be linked to lack of pigment. I want to get my female a nice male. I will begin the search for something different, maybe a blue or black platy, the results will be striking.
