Planned Fry Journal Just For Fun :)

That's excellent!
Hope she's stored his sperm so you can have another drop.
If one of them is a male will you breed it back to the mother? It would be disappointing if they're both female!

I didn't actually think what to do if they were both female lol. I am just used to guppies, what age can you tell if platies are male/female? If one is male then yes I will breed him back to the mum but if she has the dads sperm, then she will drop again, hopefully with some males and hopefully I move her in time lol.

Some people say 3months and once a gonopodium appears it's deffo a male, but some males can look like females for 5 months or more.

Thanks, I will be waiting a while lol!

Here's baby platy 1, you can just about make out the blue eyes. They are very shy.

Aww both are cuties! They'll be shy for a couple of weeks til they gauge they are too big or too quick to get caught by the adults.

The 2nd baby is a chunk lol. The first one is slightly smaller but the 2 of them are becoming more confident by the day.

I forgot to update my other 2 batches of fry. There are still 13. They are almost 2 months old I think maybe older, they still have no colour which is frustrating, I have about 6 of them who are female. They have gravid spots. I am hoping they colour up quick! It's always like waiting an eternity for guppies to get their colour!

Ny, sorry if this is none of my business but have you thought of investing in a breeding tank that goes in your main tank... your pregnant female can give birth and the fry fall down in to a seperate compartment where they can't be eaten.

My sister had guppies and had to do this

Hi, I used to have a breeding trap. It was a marina one like the one you mentioned. I had a lot of females die on me whilst being in there as they got too stressed. I used to put the fry in there but found their water would become soiled very quickly and they would be very slow at growing too. I now put the females into the 64L tank when they have about a week or so to go. I found it very successful, the females didn't show signs of stress. The babies also tend to grow quicker as they have more room :)

Wow that's some contraption! That would be ok if you didn't have space for another tank and had to use a trap. Are you thinking of breeding them yourself? I have been breeding guppies for 2 years now and that was the only way I did it-found the fry and put them in the trap. It's only in the last few months I was able to get a separate tank since I moved into a bigger place in Feb! The change has been amazing.

Here's a pic of one of my 4 day old guppy fry chasing some food! Dad was all black, mum was half black with patterned tail. The babies are all like this, dark, half black tails and light tail fins with black dots which will be colour!

Awww you guys are so sweet... but you know me... survival of the fittest.  ;)

Oh hai :p you just seem to drop by every now and then! How are your guppies enjoying your stealthy tights? haha

I wouldn't know where to start with tropical fish, my mum has kept coldwater all her life so I learned a lot from her... would love to breed coldwater but can't find any info on it.  My mum's fish have never bred, strangely enough.
