Planned Fry Journal Just For Fun :)

You've not seen oddball move, he moves at the speed of light when it comes to live food. I have had a bit of a disaster. My 30L sprung a leak it's cracked at the top of the edge. I had to move the existing fry into the 64L and put oddball into the 95L community and at the moment everything is going great.

So tomorrow marks 4 weeks since I started this journal. I have moved the female guppies to the 64L because I think they will drop this week. The cobra tail is massive. The half black a bit smaller. They are swimming about exploring and looking for food so aren't showing any signs of stress which is brilliant. Plus they get a break from the boys. The 2 platy fry are in this tank too but like I said in an earlier post-I uprooted everything and couldn't find them so I think they will definitely be able to stay safe.
Here's to some black babies! Hopefully lol!

Keep us informed when anything happens with the new fry, Ny.
Good luck with getting the leaky tank sorted. Out of curiosity, how will you repair it? DIY or get it done professionally? I've never had to do it so haven't a clue where I'd start.

I won't be able to repair it,as I lifted it, the pressure just made it crack more. It's in the bin. What a waste.
Oddball will need to stay in the community just now.  He seems to be doing fine, he swims along the whole tank, he doesn't bother anyone (apart from the cherry barbs but they can get away quick)

Will keep you all updated on the fry I hope it happens soon these fry have a waiting list lol.

Here are the ladies. As you can see they are into the final stages of their pregnancies so will stay in this tank until they drop!

The half black seems to be square now and her birthing tube is starting to be visible. It will be very close!

In this pic you can just about see the half black hiding under the leaves. She has been like this for some time so I think maybe labour has started. I hope so!

You can see her just to the right of the heater.

Those 2 look well squared off! Reckon it won't be long at all before you are doing a birth announcement! lol

I hope so! It seems like it's been forever! I don't even know if the black male is the father. He was the only male with them at the time but they could have just mated before I brought them home! It really is a lucky dip lol.

The tank is next to the sofa and I started panicking because I saw movement out the corner of my eye but it was the baby platy lol. They must come out at night. The half black female is still hiding. I am just being silly and impatient now and will end up jinxing everything!
Will be running through first thing in the morning to check for fry. My females have a habit of dropping through the night and eating most of them by the time I get there in the morning.

That's nature, Ny! All my platy fry (5 lots) have been born overnight and been culled by mum by morning. It's not the presence of fry that tells me she's had them but her slim belly! Then I may notice a few hiding in the java fern. Don't feel bad about it - they are in captivity and adjusting the brood to suit the size of the tank and the water conditions.

Yeah mothers know best. Sometimes :p

She seems slightly slimmer but not too much! Don't think she's had them. I can't see any. She stays where she is just now!

Nearly all of my fry have been born overnight too.  Only one batch out of six had no survivors at all.  Only once I've actually been there to see the fry being born, at least I think they were, the mum would disappear behind a leaf and then a tiny fry would come shooting from her direction!

My tank is definitely starting to look a bit crowded with fry.  Are you planning to get a new fry/betta tank to replace the cracked one?

No they can stay in the 64L. That's got the 2 females in it at the moment. The 95L is looking empty lol but oddball is doing fine there he seems happy so leave him be.
The black babies are being waited on. I have people wanting to take them. The 13 fry I have already are going to a lady who bought my previous babies last year.
Keep the ones that can contribute to the line and sell the rest.
Once the babies are a few weeks old they will go into the 95L and the 64L will be empty again :/

WE HAVE FRY, WE HAVE FRY!!! 6 of them, but get this-the guppy fry are the same length as the platy fry. They have obv been there for a day or 2 and I haven't noticed. They are very dark so against the black substrate they are invisible! I have put the females back into the main tank I don't know who had them as they are still very big. If I find any more in the main tank I will put them into the baby tank.

I am so excited! They seem to be dark bodied with clear tails at the moment.
