Perhaps if you cut them shorter and get rid of the wrinkles they might not look so bad >pete< ! lol

Unless you were planning on using them later!

Lol! Right back to topic before we make people upset :p
The little fry is doing fine. I actually thought he'd been eaten by the endler but I have fry bigger than him! I couldn't find him all morning, even when I did a water change I couldn't find him. Then I suddenly seen him dart out. HUGE sigh of relief!

Fair enough Nylah....I forget there are young uns on here... sorry  I hijacked your thread and lowered the tone.

Pleased your fry is ok.

It's usually me who lowers the tone :p

The fry is so small I lose him all the time. He likes sitting on the leaves. He is the master of stealth-defo platy!

Had a ton of platy fry in my tank today.  My big momma platy was HUGE, this was her third brood and I think the biggest yet.  Unfortunately her first batch is now big enough to pick on the little ones so I've been watching newborn fry get flushed out and eaten all day - there are still a few left though!

Your little one should turn into a nice white platy!

Aww congrats! It's awful when you see the fry getting chased and eaten. I feel so helpless-then panic mode sets in and i'm chasing them about with a turkey baster to get them to safety. You'd think at almost 2 years of doing this I would let them be! Hopefully you will still have some. The way I see it is the smartest ones survive.
I am hoping it has the characteristics of mum and dad-if the white platy was even the dad! I am hoping for white with blue eyes.

Now, I am probably going to cause some controversy here but I have read, and researched a lot about line breeding i.e breeding the daughter back with the father or breeding the son back with the mother for a certain trait. If I want true white, blue eyed platies then I am hoping for a boy so I can breed it back to the mum for that trait. A lot of the fish we have now are results of inbreeding for a certain colour or fin shape.
For example one of my fry from the last batch has red eyes. If it was a boy and mum was still alive I would have bred it back to the mum and that way the fry would be carrying the albino gene. If I took a sibling pair from that fry and bred them together the result would be albino fry. I would then stop there or deformities will appear. I have read that guppies do not have a recessive gene. I don't know about platies.

Sounds interesting.  If you want a particular trait then I guess that's the only way to do it!

Also bear in mind that females can store sperm... so you may still get more platy fry from the deceased father?

Oh yes! Thanks for reminding me! That's good then. I hope it's his fry lol. She honestly didn't even look pregnant, maybe that's her first ever drop. How exciting!

Oh no! I must have missed a couple of pages and just read about your male platy and Rusty! Am so sorry, Ny!
Pleased to hear about your fry tho - you can bet where there's one there'll be a few more they are masters of hiding!
Congrats to you too Daize!
Sorry about the font size - for some reason it's gone bonkers and coming out really tiny so I have to resize it!
(When did spell-check arrive I don't recall seeing it before?)

WOW that fonts massive!
Yeah I am so sad about rusty and my male platy. 2 in 1 day,  just awful.
I haven't found any more fry. I had the whole tank turned upside down looking for the males body. Nevermind!

So...it turns out my camera was in my jewellery box the whole time! I knew I had put it somewhere safe when I moved! I can't believe it's been here the whole time.
You know what will happen tomorrow....PICS PICS PICS!!!

Woohoo!! Congratz on finding your camera at last, Ny - will look forward to more pictures!

Thanks, i'm so embarrassed that it was there the whole time. I still had bags sitting waiting to be unpacked (I know I have been here since Feb-I hate unpacking!) I was just looking through bags and you know when you have that "a-ha" moment and the lightbulb appears-that's what happened to me lol. I will finally get a pic of the endler! I say endler, he was in the endler tank but he's a cobra guppy. He's just minuscule so could still be a baby hence why he's in the 30L with the teeny fry who is named phoenix. Still need a name for this cobra, my little one says "look mummy he's got writing on his side" because his markings are so blocky. They remind me of Pakistani loaches!
Here's to hopefully half decent photos!
