pea puffer tank

i don't, but i know enough about them to recognize that their main strategy of survival in the wild is shoaling - you can't deny them that in captivity and expect them to be happy
That is right.

It’s a 7 gallon with dimensions of 40 long 26 wide and 25 high in cm

To be honest even trusted sources like aquarium co op say no more than 1 in anything less than a 10 gallon so I wouldn’t put a group in my tank, I don’t want to down on peoples research but that wouldn’t sit right with me

I think I’ll not set up the tank as I don’t think that more than one pea puffer can live in my tank and I was really looking for a fish with a lot of personality which pea puffers gave me

I may try a pair in my tank but I value the health of my fish so if there fighting I wouldn’t want to put them in a bad position

Here are a few references that I found

"The safest bet is to get one dwarf pea pufferfish and keep them alone. This will ensure that there isn't any fighting and allow you to get away with a smaller tank."- https://www.aquariumsource.com/dwarf-pea-puffer/

"If you want to set up a nano aquarium with a single puffer, it will happily live on its own without a problem."- https://fishtankadvisor.com/pea-puffer/

"Pea puffers don’t school together, even when they tolerate sharing tank space."- https://fishtankadvisor.com/pea-puffer/

I don't know though i just don't want any fighting, maybe a pair I would really worry about a trio

hmm. I would be nevouse to put more than one in as most places say that even though they do better in groups, those groups need larger tanks and to keep them in too small of a tank could lead to fighting and death in some cases.
There is your answer then.

man there is so much contradictory information out there it's a surprise anyone can keep fish alive, I don't know what to do

be careful where you get your information, some of those websites have a picture of the wrong species on them
the website puffer enthusiasts worldwide provides the best information and care on various puffers based on my experience

Yeah yeah don’t worry these were just some random quotes I grabbed, but channels like aquarium co op, prime time aquatics and others listed a pea puffer singly as a 5 gallon fish.

i'm not going to try to force you to take my word over theirs - i only asked you to recognize that they have adapted to be shoaling fish in the wild and will show much more confidence in a group environment
they don't know that there aren't any predators lurking around the corner of their glass box, and not all stress in fish is necessarily visible, but if you provide them with conditions as close as possible to nature, then you can be far more certain that they are happy
(note that i don't know if a group of 4 will work in a 7 gallon (or if a group of 4 would work at all) - if i were you i would look at other fish options or get a bigger tank)
