pea puffer tank

Beautiful, must live alone, but will probably present with scale thickening if he carries dragon gene.
Can you explain scale thickening to me I’m not familiar I know some Bettas have problems but never heard of this

This is a defect due to the dragon gene which is often carried by the samurai morph. If scales cover Betta eyes it can turn blind.

mmm im slightly confused, maybe im asking dumb questions

These defects are typically due to over-breeding/crossing.

mmmh ok then that would affect quality of life then which im agenst ok maybe not do youknow if theres any problems with koi bettas

I had a dragonscale betta a few years ago and he suffered from this. At the end he had limited vision in one eye.

This is why I would never have another dragonscale betta

Be carefull : Betta koi morph = cellophane (not white) with patches of red, orange, yellow, more rarely black, hence its name. As far as I know, no specific problems.

The only "problem" with koi bettas is that they change colour. So what he looks like when you buy him is not necessarily what he'll look like forever.

Yes cos they carry marble gene. Reason why they are sold at 4-5 months old. After this, between 6 to 12/15 months old they will change pattern and color.

Usually, dragon gene carriers change pattern and color only once. Usually.
But there are millions gene combinations that it is almot impossible to be sure of Betta genetics nowadays, except for solids.
