Our Journey To The Salty Side - Part One

I use the api one, I don't really like that one either, it seems accurate enough its the method and test tube caps I do not like.

It is a titration test, I am presuming salifert is aswell. You have to put a drop in from bottle 2 and shake to see if you get a colour change, my problem is that I lose count sometimes on how many drops I have used but the biggest problem is having the solution all over your hands because the caps are not tight enough.

Hop that helps your decision.

My tests all come up at around 430 -450 but my coraline algae is decreasing
Have you changed your lighting recently Seff sometimes this causes coraline to bleach and die back.
Check your magnesium, alkalinity and phosphate levels also.

Don't sound like a Salifert test kit to me as they use a syringe and you don't need tube caps.

The API is titration as you keep adding drops until you get a colour change, I assumed the salifert one is also titration as my magnesium is aswell. What is ok with salifert is that you get nice wide containers to swirl the solutions. API give you a daft test tuble that has to be shook to see if the colour changes. This is where you end up with a leaking cap and solution all over your hands.

Sorry if I didn't make sense Big C.

Right, I am fed up with seffie pontificating over her Branching hammer, so I have told her she has got to get on with it!!!!!!
We have had a little read up on how to go about it and it appears using a Dremel tool is the best way to go about it, would you recommend this method, if so any ideas on which type to get (links!!) or do you guys have a better way??

 Trod and a dremel

Ok, another question

My coraline seems to be bleaching, I have done some testing:

Mag 1410
Alk in between 15.4 and 15.00
Cal 425
PH

So, that Alk seems high to me, but to be honest, what do I know - could this be the cause of my problem and will a large water change sort it out or am I going to have to do something else  I will do a 25 litre water change tomorrow and could do another the following day if needed?

Trod came round and sorted mine out - she put the DI unit on for me and the ball valves, luckily she said let's test the water before we change the membrane :D the result is above - I'm well pleased, took her about fifteen minutes, would have taken me, much, much longer  and I now have a spare membrane as well :kana:

Mind you, the one bit which I did do, didn't really go so well  Trod said, fill the DI with the resin, which I dutyfully did - she then attached etc. turned the water on and it poured out the top of the DI unit, eeekkkk, then she says, you did put the seal on didn't you? says I, seal, what seal!!!!!!!!! Few swear words later and I have lovely clean water :kana:

Took me a while Colin, but I got that all important photo in the end

Even more weird - put the above post on today and look at the date, says 5 June - but even weirder, I also put it on the RO thread and that says I added it on the 30 th May

You two take me to the fair with your fishy exploits. Its a real gas when you both bungle about but always manage to get there in the end.
Looks good the TDS is reading Zero. Keep an eye on it from time to time and replace the resin.
Keep up the good work, I always enjoy reading your threads

Not sure about the date anomaly, I've raised the matter upstairs...
