Ok, so i'm a clumsy pregnant lady and i just spilled half a cup of flat sprite mixed with still fanta, on top of the tank, and it leaked inside... water parameters look normal, but should i be doing a 100% panic water change cause theres something toxic in sprite that i dont know about?

I would think that they would be fine, I would just check the pH since sprite is an acid it could lower it slightly but I doubt it would harm your fish as long as your tank is of a good size. Right now I'm doing experiments with acids so I would be interested to know the impact it would have on your water. As said previously a water change is a good idea.
well, i changed around 25% of the water just after this post... all levels seemed fine...
next morning the tank was cloudy as anything - couldnt see half the fish, probably only 2-3" visibility into the tank
so I did a 80ish% wc... everything afterwards seemed alright - fish seemed fine.
well skip to the next day again and now we have a 0.75ppm ish nitrite spike
I'm about to do another 50%+ wc as the hubby is here to carry the buckets.
But im curious why we would now have nitrite when there was none yesterday
I really hope a tiny bit of flattened lemonade hasnt wiped out my bacteria in the filter and wonder why it went cloudy
our filter is more than capable of processing the waste (2200lph stated on a 170l tank) and everything has been stable since the new filter settled in - around 3 weeks- a month now.
please tell me this isnt a case of needing to build a bacteria colony from almost nothing again

oh gosh, sound like your not having much fun...

What the brand name of the test kit you are using please?
Can you post your water stats in ammonia, nitrate, ph.

i have API Ammonia and nitrite tests atm, using those up before getting the master kit (got probably 20 or so tests left of each so will be ordering on payday) Ammonia is 0ppm, Nitrite is less than 0.25ppm after the wc last night (was about 70% in the end), will obv do another partial wc tonight to clear the nitrite.
I think if you go by US gallons its around 45, It's 172 litres i believe.

6 x Black Neons (1" each)
2 x Lyretail Swordtails (2")
2 x Dwarf Honey Gourami (1")
6 x Red Parrot Platy (1.5")
2 x Clown Pleco (around 2.5" and 3")
4x nerite snails ( 1 zebra, 3 horned - still small)
6 x Peppered Corydora (between 1.5" and 2")
1 x Albino Corydora (1")
2 African dwarf frogs
6 x Cherry Barb (less than 1" each)
4 x male Endler/guppy hybrids (1/2" maybe)
1 x Angelfish (1.5")
(i think there is around 52" of fish - yes we are over stocked, but we are also over filtered and i do large water changes every week, also the platy and endlers only ever stay near the top, the corys and plecs (majority of the sizes) stay on the bottom. the tank is balanced on each level and all the fish are seemingly happy and healthy. The water stats were stable before the spillage so this is not a problem from overstocking)

could there be a dead fish somewhere i know that causes ammonia, nitrite spikes. maybe a fish didnt take to kindly to the sprite?
or possibly your fish have grown and tipped the balance and caused an ammonia spike, maybe your filter is struggling....
edit....just seen the last part of your last post...yes your tank is overstocked...stocking should go on adult size of fish.......this is what i have learnt and been told lately,(ive been asking loads due to stocking my new(ish) tank..

As above, filter is more than capable of coping with my tank, and was stable until the spill, so no the filter is not struggling and thus is not a problem caused by over stocking. Not that I think its that heavily overstocked to be honest because as also stated above a lot of those inches are in bottom feeders so they don't take up much of the rest if the tank. It has been stable until this happened with the current stocking, so I'm 100% sure this want caused by fish numbers. Personally I don't believe in the inch per gallon rule anyway.
No fish are dead, I've already checked that, neither are any of the snails.
All I'm trying to find out is if lemonade could in theory cause the beneficial bacteria to be wiped out.

It seems to be that the sugar contained in your drink has sent your bacteria into a feeding frenzy that has brought on a seemingly severe case of bacterial bloom. Best thing to do, do a couple of large water changes to help clear your water out, as well as get the access sugar out of the water.
The lemonade shouldn't wipe out the bacteria you have built, in fact, it just sent them into high gear. Good luck and keep us posted

Would the sugar have broken down into ammonia and then nitrite do you think? still confused why we had a nitrite spike. Good to hear it wont have wiped out our bacteria though... you dont know how relieved i am that another fish in cycle wont be needed lol!
we literally JUST lost one of the platy
he'd been gasping earlier at the surface so i think the damage was done on the nitrite spike yesterday... but i just saw him go :'( 
I'm not sure what cause the nitrite spike, but it is a possibility
