On The Edge

lol, where's the best place to get Riccia from? I've looked at a few types and pots of it but ideally I'd want it pre tied to something?

just for you llj, i got some more pics.

Thank you, I like the riccia. I don't think it'll pearl though with the easycarbo. What other plant species have you decided on?

am quite pleased with it.

I am too. you are fast... 21 pages does not necessarily yield a better Iwagumi arrangement!

Substrate from the local area might not have been the best idea, though. I think that could also be a factor. It could look all prestine and nice, but you never know...

Biulu that is iwagumi ;) I believe the basic laws of the style is something like 3 prominent rocks for hardscape with 1 or 2 variants of plants. I believe :)

sorry i didn't answer you Lu, i have just finished work. Yes, James is right, have a read of this...

mine is no way as good as these, but i think the basics are there (a bit lol).

yes, there is a female betta in there, its my father in laws, its just keeping the filter ticking over until i deciede what to put in it.

Thats my next thing, what would you lot put in it?

What i would still call the Galaxy Rasbora, ableit it now has a new name that i can never remember. A small shoal of these would be stunning in a tank such as this.

Or i would have a smal shoal of Mountain Minnow perhaps?

i actually saw some WCMM this afternoon as i popped into lfs on the way home and i don't know why, but they looked quite big! I used to keep them when i did cold water, they were my first proper fish as an adult. I do have a soft spot for them. I also spoke to the chap in the lfs regarding Galaxy's and he put me off them. They don't last long do they?

Boraras would be the only shoaling fish I would recommend for a tank this size. Especially if you want to maintain the idea of scale that is crucial for Iwagumi style. Go with Boraras Europthalmoides, Merah or Brigittae. They'll do fine in the typical environment for a planted tank. They do, however, tend to get sucked up filters, so be careful about the intake tube. I had a strong filter in my 8g, and would find the little guys on occasion, looking quite shocked...

Boraras Merah was the sturdiest of the three species I worked with... Stunning little fish...

thanks llj, i'll ask about these at my lfs, as he'll after order tham in. Was thinking about some lampeyes, just don't know whether they would suit.

I have added a small shoal of Ember tetras. They max out at 2-3 cms, so i reckon they'll be good in the Iwagumi.

The Riccia has grown in a bit. Just been adding Easycarbo and Profito.
