Ive jus bought a new tank (60x18x18) and whilst im not totally new to keeping tropical fish i want ot make sure i do this right!

im gonna have it as a community tank adding the fish i have already and more.

ive got

5 neon tetras
5 cardinal tetras
3 plattys
a small plec
2 aquatic frogs (those guys are funny)

and in another tank.

2 angel fish
2 sailfin rams

and 2 cory bottom feeders.

firstly, do you think im best keepin my angel fish where they are and maybe leave the corys there 2? my guppies and plattys have both had babys and they survived long enough to grow bigger than anybodys mouth but the angels would swallow them whole.

secondly. what do you think i should add to my new tank?

i want something a bit bigger as i mainly have small fish at the moment.

is there any cichlids that can go in with the above fish?

lastly, what sort of filter should i be running in a tank this size? i have a filter from ages ago when i had a 4 foot tank but thats quite old now and doesnt run like it used too.

a link to a site that sells filters would be cool 2. :D

thanx in advance for any help!

Sam.

If you are from the UK I find http://www.aquatics-online.co.uk to be one of the cheapest online.

thanx ill check em out. B)

one more thing to add.

to make a base for the stand im gonna use breeze blocks with a big sheet of MDF across (and dress is up so it doesnt look kack) as i have a concrete floor and finding a stand that doesnt cost £££ is quite hard.

will this be ok?

Sounds like a pretty good plan to me, just make sure it's level, that what ever you use as the shelf for the tank is treated against water damage and that you put some polystyrene under the tank itself. I'd have 4 columns of the bricks to spread the wieght evenly.

Don't like the stand that usually come packaged with tanks anyway. Normally look like cheap coffins IMO.

Can also recommend aquatics-online, used them many times.

I'd not be happy about using MDF as it will turn to mush if it gets wet and really isn't very strong. You could try blockboard or wood of a decent thickness, with plenty of breezeblock support.

thanx guys :D

pickin the tank up on thursday and ill take pics when its all setup in a few weeks.

still not sure whats going in it

found a good thickness of MDF works well, although marine plywood works better :D

You just have to be careful that the bookshelf can hold the weight of the tank once its full with water and decorations otherwise it could be a disaster!
