Oh No... Not Another Nano Startup Thread!

The tank is now home to a skunk cleaner shrimp! Fantastic colours and bags of character.

Acclimatised for 2 hours yesterday morning, had a snack on some krill in the evening and was happily exploring the rock this morning when I checked on it.

Pics coming soon.

Your thoughts please...

I will be adding a Clown (probably a perc) this weekend.

The question is, do you think it's too early for me to add some fairly hardy coral (probably zoos unless they had some very colourful mushrooms) too...

Tank is stable with Nitrates barely above 0
Massive amounts of Cheato in sump
Rowaphos and De-Nitrate in sump

The tank will have been set up for 6 weeks and have been cycled for 4.

I am aware that this would be a touch on the early side, but would be keen to hear your opinions.

I'd say go ahead  Your cycle finished weeks ago and you also have the advantage of a sump/fuge which helps stabilize params further.

Go for it, add piccys when you get the clown and whatever else you see! :D

Speaking of pics...

here's the shrimp as it was acclimatising with a couple of snails:

Well I took the plunge and went for some polyps.

Very happy with them so far, opened up after being in the tank for about 2 hours (after 2 hours acclimatising). I bought one cluster which came with a very nice mushroom attached as a bonus and split the rock in two.

Here's the result:

Main cluster:

Smaller cluster with mushroom:

I also bought a small percula clown, beautiful fish, but I'm a little worried about him at the moment. It hasn't really settled in the tank so far, just swimming along the front of the tank. It looks healthy and was behaving normall in the shop. I tried to offer it a couple of mysis but it ignored them although it did have a half hearted look at some slow sinking pellets, but didn't eat. I have seen it eat a couple of pods though.

I did think that it may be due to the powerhead blowing it around, so it's been off for a few hours (sump pump still running) but it's still patrolling the front glass.

Tank stats are all correct, shrimp and CC are all fine.

Any thoughts?

And finally a full tank shot:

Sweeeeet! Loving those corals :D

Sounds like the same behaviour as when i added my clown. Shouldn't be anything to worry about, they seem like they are getting thrown around by the current at first but after about an hour or 2 they'll swim happily in and out of it ;) Keep up the good work, your tank looks great :)

Dan

Thanks Dan.

It's been in there about 24 hours now... it just won't leave the front glass, not been near the rocks. There are plenty of places it could hide for a bit with less current but it's ignored them completely.

:dunno:

Yeah, my two clowns were like that every time I came in the room when I first got them. Their attention is all on me when I'm around cause they think I'll give them food :)

Is there anyway you can peek in on the tank without him noticing you? Maybe he'll swim around the rocks when you're not there?

How often do you feed?
Dan

It's looking a lot more relaxed today and had a good feed on some brine shrimp and then much more of a wander around the tank. I'll keep an eye on it and might try the sneaking up on it later! Feeding twice a day at the moment.

Other news:

Came in this morning to find a turbo snail stuck in the inlet of the powerhead  it's back on the rock, but still in the shell at the moment.

My shrimp moulted last night! Got a bit of a fright when I spotted what I thought was a dead shrimp... :X

Looks awesome, especially nice to see him with his dorsal fin erect, usually a good sign of health in a clown :)
