So matt what are ur views?
Well Latimeria,
I think newts are one of the best pets to keep in a tank. However, let me say this before I get a bad rep, YOU SHOULD NOT KEEP THEM WITH ANYTHING BUT SNAILS.(EVEN WITH OTHER NEWTS OR SALAMANDERS IT CAN BE DANGEOUS TO KEEP THEM TOGETHER.) Newts to me, would do best in a 20 gallon high tank, with the tank 1/2 ful. Make sure to put in medications that get rid of harmful things in tap water like chloriene, before you put in your newt tank. The tank should be pretty moist, it should have a place for it to lay and relax in heat, and it is optional but very good to have a water bowl in the tank also. Newt tanks do not require filters and heaters are optional, but will probally help ur newt adapt to waters where it originates from. Again heaters are not required, and there are a lot of species where it would be better to not have a heater in your newt tank. Again, make sure you feel your water to about 1/2 full so ur newt want get out, and make sure you put nothing in your tank with your newt except maybe a snail, which your will still need to be careful with. I hope everyone will try keeping a newt.
really? my aunt had a newt in with her fish, and the newt ate the fish. Though i have heard about fish surviving with newts, i thought it was really rare.
What kind of newt do you have?
