New To Fish Keeping, My Big Journal

I'm using red sea test kits at the minute, but when they run out im going to get salifert. You think the test kits are not working?

definitely worth getting another test kit (salifert are my preferred option) just to see whether your other tests are correct.
It could be that in fact you tank has completed its cycle, but the tests are faulty.

ahhh okay then, I hope it is :D

Sooo, I'm gonna buy ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and phos test kits. and a rowaphos pads, is that everything?

Looks like it. If you want LPS or SPS corals later, it may be an idea to pick up Alkalinity Calcium and Magnesium test kits also in readyness

I've got my new test kits, I must say, they look alot better qualtity than the red sea ones I had.
I've done ammonia and got 0-0.25 straight away.

New results with salifert test kits.

Ammonia 0-0.25
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
Temperature 27.8

Shouldn't nitrate be showing?

Do you have a Turkey Baster??, if so, blow the rocks off and syphon off any debris. Give the tank a day and then see how it is doing. You have been cycling for a long time now, probably got the cycle completed.

I am thinking that there may just be a little debris over the rocks that is dye off, if so once the rocks are blown and a water change is done, syphoning off the debris, you should have perfect levels.

okay then, ill give it ago. could I just use my pump or will the baster do a better job?

You can use a pump but the Turkey baster comes in really handy for Marine fish keeping. Once you have corals the powerheads are probably a bit too strong, the baster comes into its own then.

I've done that, i did it with the pump for today. whats the best way to syphone off the debris?

dont plow it off with a pump get a hose and syspihon it out then the levels will go down if you use a pump it will jsut blow it round the tank and will take longer for the ammonia to go down

regards scott
