New Salty: My 29

Ok, just looking to get a head start on the things I can keep now...my tank is cycled w/ a diy overflow and sump finished just need the pump. The lights are not yellow at all to my eyes, they look bluish. Bubbles forming under sand so need some Nassies and some more hermits and snails. Turbo for my tank??? I will be tricking out my tank til' october(my birthday cause' I'll probalbly get another tank) with my baby-sitting money over the summer. Will be getting lights(t5 or led then maybe MH), skimmer, UV sterilizer, and bunches of food and supplements. My dream tank will be amazing just want to get a head start on the beauty of the tank :)

I will be getting dead rock very soon then letting sit for 2 weeks. For lighting should I get the kind of light Tyler has or LEDs (Ecoxotics Pamorama Strips), i was wondering if the LEDS would get more shimmer of stronger light and better colors. Would two work for a 30 inch long x 18inch deep???

What about stunner strips???

Sorry, I have no experience with LED's so best to wait for someone who has to advise you.

Made DIY skimmer pic when home from Ohio :)

What about stunner strips???

Many people use those lights with or without stunner strips and have posted really good results. But... To light your tank you're looking at at least two of those units, plus stunner strips for color pop if that's your goal. That'll run you about $250 to light your tank. Now, Tyler's light is growing birdnest, which means it'll probably grow montiporas and simple sps corals if placed correctly for $75. Hmmmm, if this were me? To save headache and construction time, because I stink at DIY, I'd go for Tyler's light.

What about http://www.aquatraders.com Odyssea MH Advanced Plus kit 30" long and I would replace bulb w/ a Pheonix 14k???

Btw what about getting Tyler's light and 1 panorama pro or stunner strip will that give me color pop and the light for more sps corals(panorama, stunner is too weak)?

I'm thinking for my stocking this would work:

1or2 Ocelleris/Clarkii Clown

1 firefish

1 flame hawkfish

1 YWG

1 Yellow-tailed damsel

1 6 line

Too much???

I just returned from Ohio and had my friend watch the tank good and bad news more good than bad:

I have coraline algae after just under a month and lots of small blotches:

And I have this nasty thick brownish black stuff on my rocks and sand, I think it is Cyano. What do you think it is??? What should I do to get rid of it???:

And then I have these brown pellets(it seems) around the rock a light brown and very small:

I have decided to stop asking questions(but please just awnser the one above  ) by not posting and get off your backs. I feel unwanted ..... I will instead post toward the end of the summer to show my progress...............

Stay sharp and have a great summer

Have a good one

See y'all later

Your not unwanted... We are glad to answer your questions! Thats 1 of the perposes of this forum.

Jared, It is not that I do not want you. I really do. I/we want you to learn and enjoy the hobby. You simply need to do some of your own research. Most of the questions you are asking can be found by doing some simple searches. It just feels like you post a lot of questions before actually trying to find it. It is good to use questions as last resorts or to clear up answers, but you also are asking questions about DIY LED's which most of us have not done, or DIY rock which I ended up posting links to you for. I understand you are young, and I am just wanting to educate you. Take your time, read up on things you have questions about, and ask when needed =).

Thank you!!!

But can you tell me what algae that is. Please =)

LOL. algae comes in many different forms. What color is the algae you have? It is usually hair like or strand like almost similar to grass... Sometimes RED, also in bubble algae form. Don't forget to use Bing or Google search engines for these.

Please don't leave!

Answering questions is exactly what we are here for!

Hard to tell from the pics but the brownish stuff is probably cyano & will go with time. If you can't wait point a powerhead at it.

Again can't really tell from the pic what the brown pellets are.

The green stuff around your powerhead and filter looks like Chaeto algae... Strange that it would randomly grow. It appears you might have some cyano (red), which means TOO MUCH LIGHT. how many hours of light are you giving the tank? Since nothing like corals are in their anyway, shorten the lights down to 8 hours a day for a little bit, maybe a week.
