New Cory Fry Tank On The Way

I used a regular layer of sand, probably about 1" or so. I sifted it just using a household sieve. I just wanted to get the biggest pieces of sand out and leave the smaller stuff so they could rout around in it.

The shrimp are great, I think. They leave the fry alone and don't seem to bother the eggs at all. Plus, they help a lot with cleaning up the extra food that inevitably gets to the bottom of the tank. I think they're the best tankmates.

I've had the powerhead sponge on a few different intakes and it always works well. I'm not savvy on all the different types of filter, just the ones I have.

Good luck with this!

Thanks. What type of shrimp is the question :p . I found an online shop with a huge selection of shrimp, some costing 70-90 a piece

The Fluvals have the powerhead inside the box itself and get water through slits all along the sides of the box which are big enough to suck up cory fry, though I never had problem with livebearer fry :/ So it's pointless attaching a sponge although impossible too.

I have red cherry shrimp. Easy to care for, inexpensive and lots of fun to watch.

I'll definately get some of the red cherry shrimp and I was also looking at the yellow shrimp, the Caridina cf. babaulti "Green"(elictric green) and the Orange Sakura Shrimp. They may do well in my hard water.

My albinos are breeding again. I just saved 10-ish eggs. But I noticed the last time my gold laser corys chasing the albino females. The same thing is happening today. I thought they can't interbreed? No surprise most of the previous batch of eggs turned out infertile. Here is a video:

Yey :hyper: , two little wigglers so far and maybe 3-4 eggs that look ok, it took just 2 and a half days to hatch :hyper: I moved the two wigglers in my small breeder box with some plants and sand because I already dropped the net in the tank twice by accident. They are gonna have to wait for the big tank but they are so tiny I might as well keep them in this box for a while as I did with my previous cory.

I think I've got only 4-5 wigglers out of this batch. The other eggs I saved yesterday all turned white but not fuzzy or fungal and I have the feeling that the lasers are playing part in the infertile albino eggs. The eggs were white but very hard. Previous batches I got the eggs with fungus were gone soft and most of them brownish and I never got a whole batch go white.

Anyways, these babies are so small I can't imagine putting them in anything bigger than the 200-300ml breeder box. I don't have the tank yet anyway.
I'll update with video or pictures when they are big enough to be seen on the camera unless I screw up again. :fun:

I've been trying to see them with the magnifying glass and one of them is not an albino :hyper: It has black eyes!!! They always had albinos before!!! Hope I can keep them alive to see the markings. I've been trying to take a snap with the super macro of my camera but nothing comes out properly

Guys and girls, I've been checking videos of the colouring of gold laser vs bronze corydoras fry and this one looks like a laser to me. It has black eyes and brownish body exactly as in the gold laser cory fry video below. The bronze ones seem to have their whole head darkish colour where my one can be mistaken for albino if it wasn't for the black eyes.

Gold lasers fry are very noticeably orange when they hatch.... its possible your albinos are throwing out bronze variations, which mine do all the time....

The last batch i have around 35 growing fry all are bronze colour except the 10 albinos - all of these from albino parents :)

It's probably wishfull thinking on my side  It's probably a bronze of course but this is the first time they produce a bronze, even some of the eggs were slightly different this time as I could see eyes inside where the previous batches wery solid beige colours with no dots. I actually want some bronze ones for a change and hopefully I'll keep them alive to find out :grr: The rest are definately albinos though.

Do you have any videos of gold laser and bronze corys 2-3 days old? :good:

One egg hatched out of the second batch. What a hatch rate :grr: One more albino.

The tank arrived a couple of hours ago :yahoo:.

I am not sure how to decorated besides the sand part at the bottom. The few babies I have are super tiny and will stay in the breeder box for a while me thinks. I won't be able to find them in that tank. I connected an air tube from the hood filter leading a bit of water flow into the breeder box and the water in the breeder box should be constantly refreshed now. I stuck the air tube into the sponge of the hood filter so hopefully some natural microscopic food will be transferred too for them to have a snack between feeding time :p

Congrats on your fry :good:

Heres some gold laser fry with albino fry newly hatched... just hunting out whether i had any bronze fry at the same time  - scroll part way down - http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/337470-heres-goesattempting-to-breed-the-golds/
