New Beginnings

Looks really nice, Biulu! Sorry we couldn't send my plants to you. :(

But seems you're doing great without them. :good: Looking forward to watching this fill in.

I'm not using potassium sulphate, I was under the impression that you can possibly get enough potassium from the other two. But since I am new to ferts...I wouldn't go off me saying that. :/

I just took the recipe off James' planted tanks site. I also thought it was a lot of potassium but I have never been good in chemistry and thought maybe it is used just as an activator, or a way to bind the other element .

I agree with the above...with EI there is an abundance of K, which for me is one of the reasons of why it works so well. I would start to dose without. Adding the API won't hurt.

Ok, thanks! As I said above the recipe is not EI; I am not into daily water changes...

Thanks Liz! That means a lot coming from you; I have always loved your set-ups! I have a very nice surprise; read the next post... :good:

Guess what?! I have pellia! :band: :kana: :kana: :kana:

I went to one of my favourite lfs yesterday to see if they had H. corymbosa and another crypt that I wanted and they had not only that but also pellia!

I think I got very lucky because they had some mounted on very small patches of plastic mesh costing around 12 CAD plus taxes (another 15% here!) and they had some floating in plastic bags. When I asked them how much that cost, they told me 4.99! And it is at least 5 times the amount of the one on the mesh. :hyper:

My only question now is, how do I attach this? Should I sew it onto mesh first and then put it with mesh and all in the place I want it to be? Should I use a hairnet, just like with riccia, or....?

Any help appreciated!

It has been 2 weeks since planting and I am very satisfied with the growth. Even though I have only been dosing API leafzone until now! The leaves on the rotala are a bit more spacious than the older leaves, but it is still acceptable. I wasn't even sure they would grow at all! Since the wendtti crypts came from a friend's tank they are not melting and all of them are producing new leaves :hyper: . The limnophila is also doing quite well.

I was able to get H. corymbosa last week and I put it somewhere in the back. I'll see how the limnophila does as I actually like it better than the corymbosa. I just want to see whether it is true that the corymbosa needs less light and will thrive more. At the same occasion I got a new crypt; I love the roundish, oak coloured leaves.. I was told it is C. affinis, but I am not sure. Can anybody confirm this?

Allright; enough rattling! I'll let the pictures do the talking....

the new crypt. Is this c. affinis, or...?

And the surprise: A. crispus flower! :hyper: . Even if it deteriorates the plant, I have decided to let it grow and die naturally as I am interested to see how it develops. It is currently releasing pollen in the water...

I urgently need to put the pellia on the wood. I wanted it to be on the left hand or right hand part sticking out, but I am worried about the rocks... Any suggestions?

Now I had the opportunity, I got myself some more pellia and finally put it on the wood today. I am quite chuffed with the look of it. The idea is that it will form a bright green lane, covering the wood going from the left to towards the fern and the right towards the fern.

I only wonder though if I should have stretched it out a bit more, like you do with the strands of java moss? Mine is now quite thick and I wonder whether this will only cause the lower pieces to die instead of to attach themselves to the wood? I would be grateful for suggestions. Also, if somebody can confirm me whether my new crypt is affinis or another type.

close ups of the pellia: too thick or not?

Looks great! I am eying your Rotala and wondering whats up with mine :p Mine seems to be growing a little hunched over with a lot of branches. Is that normal? Yours seems happy enough to grow UP. :)

I really like the look of your crispus too.

Thanks! Yes, I am happy with it too sofar. And the most important thing: only some algae on the glass! Mmmm.... Are the branches starting from the bottom, or the top?

Looking good!

Do you have any pairs between the angels?

Me too, & the Copper Ras

Where's the H.Corymbosa ?

Thanks Stu! The Corymbosa is still small and hidden between the wood and the limnophila.

Looking good!

Do you have any pairs between the angels?

Thanks! Not yet, I am hoping for it to happen... I think that only the largest one is sexually mature sofar though... The others are still relatively small and their 'platinum look' has not yet developed in full.

looking great Lu!

get rid of those melted leaves asap though, they will be giving you small spikes.
