New Beginnings

Yeah but with the sharp end pointing up, was thinking a central island scape with a slight mound, the wood upright and stones around the edge of the mound maybe, I've seen a couple of island scapes that look really good but not a lot of people do them. :)

What about scape one and then the wood in scape 2 to the right against it?

Something like this? I consider the stones to be too big for this tank though in this way. There is hardly any space left in the front, or I should move the wood completely to the back, but then there is no more space to put plants in that area.

Alright, you mean like this?

What I like about the 2 combinations of the wood is that they do create some natural crevices for the gobies. Hopefully though, the loaches will not be the ones taking up residence there though....

Edit: put up a better picture without shading

I have no experience at all in scaping, but I love it..I think there's potential for plants in there nowand the shape is interesting. HAHA if everyone else says they hate it, we know where we stand

I like it too, although I also like the earlier one I put up with the 2 pieces of wood. This one gives it more 3D though.

I just found out after another vinegar test that the stones fizz a bit in the white veins, so I can't use them as my water is already 7.6 which is the upper range for the gobies and espei I want to put in. A pity though as I really like thse rocks...

I do like both pieces of wood..the second set up best though. It definitely has depth. Bummer, about the rocks. I lost a TON of mine too. Can't wait to see your tank evolve. You have so much more experience then me, I know I'll learn a lot.

I prefer the last one you put up, the stones do look a little big for it, looks great with both bits of wood combined, yeah you don't wanna go cutting the wood it never looks as natural cut. Looks good tho, real potential there. :)

I like the wood combined best - no rock - but I'm not too sure about the last one because of the rather hefty vertical bit I've ringed:

For me, I think it might look better if that were a tapered piece going upwards.

Those are nice bits of wood though...I really like the shape you've made with them. Lots of potential for a lovely scape :good:

Well, I might have more experience with fish keeping and plants, but you are definitively the more creative one; I hadn't seen that possibility!

I agree with you, but that is how the piece came and I am not strong enough to break it. Of course I could saw a piece off, but I am afraid that wouldn't look very natural so I prefer to leave it like it is.

Look what came today!

I deliberately left the packaging on one side so you can see how well it was packaged. You know, most American companies don't ship to Canada (I guess because of tax problems) so we don't have so much access to stuff like in Europe or the US, but I found this company J&L Aquatics in BC with great prices and a large assortment. They are specialised in salt water (also ship livestock) but for hardware they are perfect for the fresh water people. For the filter alone I already paid more than 50 CAD less than in the cheapest aquarium place here. Plus free shipping on dry goods. Highly recommended to all Canadians!

So, what is it I actually got:
1 Rena filter XP2 (as a replacement for the Fluval 205 that came with the kit), a 200 W heater and a Koralia 450 gph.

I also got several plants from a friend, so I am ready to actually set up the tank.

That looks great, Biulu.

Soften the wood with mosses
