Need some help with external filters....

I really annoyed with it! Will this delay my cycling now(?) as that wasthe last one is stock and I will probably have to wait a few days for another one to come in!?

Sye:

You have discovered Fluval Fiddle. Actually, they are not bad filters, but FIDDLY!!!!!!!! I use Eheim, but my mate Bob had a job lot of Fluvals and I got used to spending hours in his fish house FIDDLING, with the seals to get them to seal properly. Once they ARE sealed, they work great - and are cheaper than Eheims.

Seriously, ALL Fluvals seem a bit fiddly to seal, there is no reason to suspect your specimen is a duffer - try reseating it again. Try "greasing" they seal rubber with vaseline - that often stops the sealing ring from "riding up" when "mating" the filter parts.

You pays your money and takes your choice, fiddle for hours with a Fluval is fine if you have 1, when you have a fish house full of filters, the hours you save makes Eheims look decidedly cheap!!!

*** Little EDIT afterthought ***

Bobs Fluvals could be a pain in the arse to set up, but once set, they worked great, and some of his are as old as some of my Eheims, so they are mechanically sound, just - FFFIIIDDDDDDLLLYYY!!!.

I tried to seal it when the filter stuff isn’t in there and it still leaks, I spent a good few hours fiddling with it. It looks like to rubber seal doesn’t make enough contact with the sides of the container.

Would the Vaseline pollute the water?

Lateral Line I had a another hours fiddling and it not longer leaks..... :D :fun: :D

Just not looking foward to opening it again :/

You 're learning.

>>> Would the Vaseline pollute the water?

No, it doesn't dissolve in water. It's inert.
