My goldfish has red areas all over the fins and gills... I think it is fin rot and septicemia
I went to the lfs and they told me to use this fungus cure...it made the water all green

In my other tank, my other goldfish seem fine but I added some melafix to prevent anything from happening

What more can I do?
Has anyone used fungus cure or melafix?

My source says gill disease can be protozoans, flukes, bacteria or fungus... That's a lot of different causes.

Suggests a 25-50% water change when the problem arises, and continuous water changes after that.

Melafix doesn't work, don't buy it anymore, seeing as how it's a general tonic that does nothing (from my experience and others').

I'm guessing you are using the jungle buddies meds?

If nothing happens, my source suggests a copper-based treatment to kill the gill parasites.

HTH

It says it treats
fin/tail rot
septicemia
dropsy
pop eye

Melafix had the samething (except popeye) so i decided to go with melafix since the petstore people recommended it

Should i feed me goldfish? Its been two days now

I keep a lot of goldfish, and can offer a little advice...

The first place to look when they get sick is your water quality. I change about 75% of my water every 3 days on my goldfish. Do you know what kind of readings you have? Ammonia? Nitrates? KH? What's your pH? ...if you're having a pH crash, you might get these same symptoms.

If everything looks good with your water you might be dealing with something more. www.koivet.com is a GREAT site for goldfish care. Just a possiblity: check out costia under diseases...

ALSO, www.goldfishparadise.com has a lot of very knowledgeable goldfish keepers. There's a disease forum that you can look at, or post your problem. My friend 'Mermaid' is practically an expert on goldfish disease and won't mind if you PM her...

Melafix basically just speeds up the healing process. It won't cure anything parasitic or bacterial.

Good luck!

One of my goldfish is the same, he ended up with a hole in his gill from it. :-(

I've been treating him with 2-phenoxyethanol, which seems to be helping. The gill hole is healing, but he still getting streaks of red on body and fins which seem to disappear and re-appear somewhere else.

It is supposedly very difficult to treat without anti-biotics. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
