I am planning on going to uni soon, and i really wanted to take my tank with me. However, i am worried that on the breaks, if i can leave them for over a month?

Any ideas?

depends what kind of tanks your running, saltwater tanks cant be left for more than a few days, planted tanks i would say the limit on mine is about a week, also depends on your stocking level, a tank with very few fish and an oversized filter will cope better with you going away than a tank that is fully stocked and on the limit of the filter, also i think a month is too long to leave any tank, even with an auto feeder or neighbour.

I know fish can go a while without food but a month seems a long time to leave them feeding. It's not just a lack of food, but also lack of water changes and maintenance and observation. If your fish started displaying any symptoms of disease you wouldn't be there to notice and take action/start treatment and the disease is free to take hold and wipe out your whole tank.
how far would your uni be from home?
would you necessarily want to go home every break for the whole break?
(when I was at uni I don't think I ever went home for more than a week at a time but the distance wasn't that great so I could go back for weekends whenever I fancied and friends and family also visited me at uni)

most fish are fine for a month without food. Especially if they are in a planted tank. Just make sure they have all been well fed for several weeks before you go away and don't add any new fish before you go.
You do run the risk of problems occuring tho and if you aren't there to monitor things you could come back to an empty tank, or at least one without fish.
If you could have someone from Uni pop in from time to time to check on them and give you a call if anything looks funny, then you would probably be better off.

cant you get one of those holiday feeders, that feed your fish wihle your are gone?

It also depends on what kind of accommodation you will be in. If it is a hall of residence, you may have to take all your belongings out every holiday. Both my sons had to do this as the university used the rooms for conferences during the breaks. A student flat with a private landlord is much easier as you can leave everything there.
