Nano Wavebox

Creating a wave motion in a small environment is tougher than you think CF. Sizing/tuning a wavemaker that works for all sorts of tank dimensions is not easy. Could be yours just wasn't very ideal for it. I've seen the nano waveboxes at my LFS running on long 100gal tanks and they work GREAT. Nice long natural wavemotion period. *shrug*

I know what you are saying Ski and I think it was partly related to the tank. My tank has a flexible grill to the partitioned filter plus the tank is only 82cm long all are really acting against the wavebox. As they use the resonant frequency, the highest frequency of the nano wavebox is not actually able to go that fast to 'resonant' in my relatively short tank. I think that is why success comes with them in long tanks easier to match pump frequency to the water column.

I like powerheads though they aren't prefect, they are sufficient for really successful reef aquariums.

CF, my tank is five foot long - and i still hated it

So, you like the tunze 6025, wish i had gone that way

The tunze 6025 is a really good powerhead it produces 2500l/h turnover and is apparently the smallest powerhead produced by tunze. It is never too late to change? There is an article on flow on advance aquarist it is really interested because it highlights the fact the apparently if you produce a really fast laminar flow in a given direction the viscous forces soon turn the flow in to a turbulent flow. The downside is it is unidirectional.

I wish I had seen the nano working in your tank. You didn't happen to video the motion it produced??
I think the real breakthrough in circulation technology will be when a surge device is produced. I have seen lots of DIY surge units on you tube and they really mimic the ocean; it is that surge of water as opposed to a rocking of the water column. The only problem with a surge device is they are noisy and I mean noisy. It sounds just like being on the beach with the crashing waves.

Thats the problem really, I would need loads of the tunze in my tank to get enough flow - will have to look at the bigger boys. I am still 'trying' with the polario  I moved it last night and got up to find both Bill and Ben had moved

I'm afraid the wavebox annoyed me so much I didn't even take a photo let alone a video

 unless you count the photos I took to sell the thing!

You wouldn't need that many; for instance 2x 6025 (the smallest) will give you 12.5x turnover and three of them would be approxmately 20x turnover. Also have a look at the larger ones they do one circulation pump that has a rating of 20,000 l/h maybe a little big for your Rio but combine that with the polario and you have some serious water movement !!

Serious indeed, that would give me 42000 lh woo hoo, it would look like a washing machine. Am going to look into them I think :good:

Do I sense an SPS tank coming on here :shifty:. I am not sure Euphyllia Spp would be very happy about being in your 'washing machine'.
