N3Ont3Tra's 37G Reef Tank Journal

Okay well I've got some bad news. Yesterday I was hearing something coming from the tank, kind of like a bird chirping. I only heard it about once every hour. I figured it was just air getting caught in a powerhead or something. It stopped after a while and I didn't think anything about it. The firefish was eating and I hadn't seen the goby at that day.
This morning, I woke up and looked at the tank before school and grabbed the bottle with RO water and behind it was the pinkbar goby. He was definately dead and all shriveled up and I felt so bad, because I realized that was what was making the chirping noises. I just can't believe it jumped out! The water level was about 4 inches below the top of the tank, because I had taken water out a little while ago and I hadn't put any back in. There was about an inch on the left wide where he could get out, but that's also where the powerhead and magfloat was, and I didn't think any of the fish would try to jump. Least of all the goby. There's nothing to chase him or anything, and the goby had just started to actually come out in the open. I'm so pissed off. I'd never even seen him off of the sand bed before!!!

I'm going to get a real lid before I get any other fish. :( I'll find something at home depot.

I'm going to the fish store this Saturday and I'll probably be getting a fish. Would a Midas blenny be okay with the firefish or would it fight? Could I get a midas blenny and two clownfish and add them at the same time?

Well I'm going to Just Fish, and I think I'm going to get a midas blenny and get some clownfish later. :)

Got the blenny. It was labeled as East African Midas blenny. It's about 4 inches, and is eating some flake food. I was a little worried about getting it, because it wasn't eating much at the store. The lady fed it live brine shrimp, and it only ate about three, and spit the rest out. But I got him, because he was pretty active, and like I said, he ate some flake food. :)

He's still doing awesome. My mom calls him 'king midas'.He found a cave he likes, and pokes his head out all day, then when he sees a piece of food he goes and gets it and darts back to his cave. Kite doesn't seem to be afraid of it, but he's a little more skittish now. Probably because King Midas is a lot bigger.

Midas's color is pretty cool, too. He looks all brown and plain in his cave, but he comes out and it's bright yellow with blue along the edge of his dorsal fin. :)

Pics coming later today. :)

Pics, as promised:

First I found a picture of the pinkbar goby. This was pretty much the most I'd ever seen of him.

What I'm guessing is snail eggs, the pic was taken about a week ago, I think

This is probably a coral, I'm not sure. First there was one smaller one, now there's two.

Thanks. The blenny is pretty cool, he's coming out a lot now.

Just a quick update.

The blenny is awesome. He's always out. His favorite food is krill. :D
The firefish is a little bit more skittish now that he has to share the tank, but he still comes out a lot, especially in the morning.
That hermit crab I posted a pic of upgraded his shell twice this week.
There's a little bit of algae on all of the astrea snails, and some diatoms on the sand. The conch eats a lot of it, but he's kind of slow, and it grows back too fast. I guess I'll have to get a HOB filter with some phosphate removal stuff.

They were labeled as sebae clowns, but I can't tell if they are sebaes or clarkii's. So if anyone knows, telling me would be a nice thing to do. :)

Sebae is the common name for Clarkii clowns ;). So named because they naturally host sebae anemones in the wild, amongst other nems. Clarkiis tend to be very indiscriminant hosters :)
