Without wanting to sound rude, your friend's goldies may 'seem' happy but stunting is a huge reality for goldfish in tanks that are too small and I would never suggest stocking them in a biorb at all :( I recommend the standard minimum 20 gallons for the first goldie and a further 10 gallons minimum for each extra fish. I'll be adding another tank to this thread soon - a big 40 gallon tank for some orandas and a black moor

No you are not being rude at all. I value your opinion greatly. :good:
In retrospect I should have said it's not the best practice. My friend has a 60L with one fantail and three small goldies. I'll have a subtle chat about moving the extra ones. It's very difficult because as we both know there are fish keepers and careful owners of fish and the former is probably what they fall under.

Have you used the same username on the forum you speak of? If so I'll chivvy it up as I'm a moderator there!

I modified the biorb so I can return it to normal if I want. I took the filter section out that holds the sponge and bubble tube, tied a knot in the end of the airhose and added a second one way valve to the tube to save any leaking.
I then filled the filter basket bit with pebbles then added my well washed sand and an Ehiem Aquaball filter (not the smallest one) so that the outflow can be directed to the surface for extra agitation.
It's as simple as that

HTH :D

Yes I have. chivvy away :) I'm eager to join. :hyper: I don't plan on modding the biorb 'till my other two tanks are fully settled. I'll do my first no-fish cycle with the biorb so that will be a fabulous project in itself especially since I'm learning the art of fish ownership - and is it ever an art, huh? So much to remember. But I really appreciate you giving me the heads up on how your modded your biorb. I may have to ask for more help on that when the time comes because without my biorb here in front of me I can't think where you put the second tube. I need a pic tutorial haha.
Anyway huge thanks and see you on the other board as well. :good:

You've lost me with the second tube bit

The airline I am talking about is the original one that runs into the base of the biorb. Disconnect that from the air pump and tie a knot in it

I'll chivvy them up...see you on the other side (look for jennybio) :D

LOL I lost myself years ago - I get what you mean now. I read second one way valve and got confused with a second line as I was thinking, 'eh there is only one tube going into the biorb'
I'll see you on the other side. :good:

Well so much for downsizing!

Let me introduce you to a slightly cloudy 180L future fancy goldies tank

Oh that looks excellent!! Love the goldies, I am not jealous  lol!

Aw thanks hun :D

They are so gorgeous! Boo is still skittish but I caught her hunting algae tabs today before she could zoom off

I still have to say I'm smitten with Curly...I am unsure that she'll stay this stunning colour as she gets bigger though  (not that it really worries me but I do so love her colouring now)

Quality thread, great fish. It is pics like these that inspire me to keep Dwarf Puffers. Hopefully should have some in the next 8 weeks or so when I visit Wharf Aquatics for the 1st time in about 18 months, can't wait!!! :hyper:

Dwarf Puffs are so rewarding to keep...I love walking into my back room and seeing 5 pairs of little eyes watching my every move  then when I look to my right I see two big pairs of eyes in the form of my F8 puffers watching me too.

Beautiful tanks and specimens!!! I love it! How do you keep the male bettas from beating on eachother? Are they juveniles?
There's a bit of a story to that...

I bought what I thought were 3 females after being surprised at how colourful they were. They went into the tank and all was peaceful for a week until a huge bubble nest appeared. The shemale suspect then went back to the shop in exchange for another female. Next morning yet another HUGE bubble nest. Got ready to take the second shemale back, only to find it on the floor the next day :(

Decided to go to my regular LFS to get a definate female....introduced her and got more bubble nests from yet another impostor from the original batch. He's now in a small 9 litre tank until I decide what to do with him and I finally have 3 females in the Arc tank *phew*

Thanks for all the comments folks. It's a struggle to stop buying tanks! It's like an addiction

Can't see which pic has been singled out while I'm at work (thanks IT) but I'll see which has caused the amusement tonight :good:
What is that worm feeder? A lemon juicer? a grater? or actually a worm feeder? so many Q`s and where do i get one please

Hi i'm new to this forum and I have to say your tanks are amazing jennybugs.

By the way about the biorb bit, yours is a modified one and is it hard to maintain. Like cleaning it and things like that.

Hello Miah and welcome to the forum :D

I have to say maintaining the modified biorbs is just as easy as maintaining any other tank really. A weekly vac up and 10% water change along with the customary sponge rinse of the filter sponges and it's all done :D

Thanks for the comments on my tanks! They're all so different from each other and provide their own unique challenges - especially my new marine tank - that's a complete different kettle of fish as they say

This is a great thread, and the pics are fantastic.

I love what you've done with you Baby BiOrb. I've had some problems with mine, namely fish getting stuck under the ceramic media that came with the tank when I was trying to hoover it up, so when I move the current inmates out into a bigger tank I was going to scrap it. Now I've seen what you've done with yours I'm going to modify mine and use it as a second tank with a couple of fish and shrimp.

Couple of questions, what size filter did you get for the Baby BiOrb? I wasn't sure if the heater could be totlally submerged so I've got the element part submerged and the dial part above water, can the heater be totally submerged? Are those Moss balls in the baby, I take it they're real not fake ones?

Thanks :)

Yes Wordy they're real moss balls :D

Don't throw the baby biorb out! Have a go with sand - it looks so good and is dead easy to do. Tie a knot in the end of the airline, add another one way valve halfway along, leave the airstone in but take out the bubble tube and filter basket with the sponge in. Then fill the holder left in the tank with pebbles, add sand and then whatever else you want.

The heater should be fully submerged. I used a mini filter like this Ebay with a spray bar attached. Lay it on its back in the tank with the spraybar pointing to the surface :D
