I would like to try that with biorb. I have a 30 litre biorb that i havn't touched in a very long time since

i got my fluval roma.

What sand did you use, and was it the eheim aqauball 2208 you used as your filter.

I would like to keep some bronze cory's in the biorb.

One more thing, did you keep the ceramic media in the tank or did you take it out.

Jewson's silver sand. Yes it was the 2208...the one above the smallest one. You can esily add more baskets to that one :D

The footprint's too small I'm afraid!

Nope...that went ages ago. I converted to pea gravel when I got rid of the ceramic media, then on to sand with an internal filter.

What bottom feeders can i have?

I havn't kept any bottom feeders before. I've only kept gouramis, angels, tetras, platies and guppys.

god all i can say you are bloody good with a camera jenny well done nice tanks or do you say balls lol

Nice 'orbs'?

TBH Miah, in a biorb or biube the footprint isn't big enough for any kind of bottom dweller, especially if you have the stock ceramic media as that's also scratchy.

The only thing you'd be ok with catfish wise would be otocinclus as they don't dwell on the bottom and rather prefer decor and sides/plant leaves.

I have a new fish - a gorgeous calico ranchu as yet un-named :D

:good:

ok thanks for the info.

I'll be getting a otocinclus for my biorb.

I read your gourami forum jennybugs. You changed the ceramic media for black gravel.

Didn't this get rid of all the good bacteria.

that ranchu is awesome, bet he cost a few bob.

@miah002

the bacteria in a biorb is kept in the substrate and the filter pads, so my guess is yes the good bacteria would have been lost, but if you change slowly there is no problem

Ok, thanks truckasauras123. I'll be trying the modification today.

The ranchu was £40 but well worth it :D

When changing media from the ceramic stuff to pea gravel, the best thing to do is bag up the ceramic media and keep it in several pouches made of tights or pop socks. Remove one pouch every three weeks or so and the good bacteria has chance to grow on the new media.

The black gravel you saw in one of my biorbs Miah, actuall was a huge mistake. It was like chippings and all angular and trapped so much poop etc in it that none of it got into the filter tray! Never again! Pea gravel or sand conversion for me!

I have the things i need for the modification but i havn't done yet as i have been busy.

So i have to remove 1 pouch every three weeks and i bought sand not gravel.

Which is better?

Should i use both.

How many bags of sand did you use?

I know ;) I have digital thermometer probes in all my tanks, some just happen to also have sticky thermometers on the outside too :hey:

Miah I've sent you a pm ;)
