My Tank Setup, Dipped My Toe,

TBO the overflow box's did look like a PITA so I stayed clear of them. Plus they cost too much in the UK and making your own just did't appeal to me what so ever. The drilling was done no sweat!

I'm a nutter

Yeah, I had to make my own, 8 hours of machine time later it works... Never doing that again ;)

And yeah Matt, you are insane

Here we are again with another up date, this time it’s my auto top-up system. As you will have read I bought a peri pump 4l/h and an N/O float switch from RS for £37. I also went to the electric wholesalers opposite my works and got some cable a plug and a IP60 rated junction box. The it was on to the fun bit, in true Matthew style I got a little drunk before ‘playing’ with the Mains voltage of 240v. First things first I had to make the bracket to hold the float switch. For this I used a bit of acrylic I had left over and cut it so I had a bit 2†wide by 12†long. Out side I went (the girlfriend doesn’t let me use the blowtorch in the house) and bent the bracket to fit.

Back indoors and the float switch went in a 13mm hole drilled in (again outside) fit like a charm first time.

Then into the sump it went

And then the fun really began. (Sing to the tune of ‘them bones’)

The blue wires connected to the, brown wire
The brown wires connected to the, big plug
The big plugs connected to the, wall socket

And zap ouch went matty!!!!!

All joking aside if you don’t know what your doing don’t do!!!

All wired up and for the test.

OH NO, big problem the switch is an O/N not an N/O so I had to adjust it by mounting it upside-down and raising the water level in the sump by 1â€. It was this or make another bracket and by this time it was about 11.30pm and I started at 7 so I was getting PO with it all.

Worked like a dream!!! Connect up the RO container and we’re done!

The big test is this weekend because I’m going to the Isle of Wight today and won’t be back till late Sunday. If when I get home all my livestock is alive then It’s worked if not don’t copy me!!

Looks awesome. You're going on vacation too? I have to pray I added enough extra water in my sump

Beautiful tank Matt :good: Someday, mine will stand among it in beauty...
Or I can try, at least! But, really, an admirable job.

I'm going on vacation, too, in two weeks to Kelowna (a south B.C. city) and then on October 1st to HAWAII! I'll find myself some Humu Humu's! :fish:

Like to think I'm a little different, must be the webbed toes!

Bailey is fine, went on a boat for the first time this weekend and loved it. He's got a little personality all of his own.

This is him falling asleep playing 'head shoulders knees and toes'

Gorgeous baby :D.

I went to New York City for the weekend and took part in a LOT of beer drinking :drink: :drinks: , too bad I didnt have any hardware to install ;). My evap rate is about 2/3rds of a gallon per day and on a system of 65-70 gallons (yey big sumps), its insignificant with respect to specific gravity. So I just loaded the tank up with a spare 3 gallons of RO water before I left. That only dropped my sg from 1.026 to 1.025 and when I came home it was 1.026. Works like a charm for a weekend. If I'm ever gone for a week though, I'll have to get fancy ;).

My autofeeder went haywire though (dumped over a weeks worth of food into the tank) and had to do an emergency water change when I got home... Thankfully I had a pre-mixed bucket of water stirring on my floor. All my corals were closed up and VERY angry with the nitrites that were present. Vaccumed up the rotting food to stop the nutrient supply and I only lost one colony. It was my 2nd favorite (Acropora Pocillipora), but 1 is better than a tank crash :good:. Heck, the fish were fat and happy

Well the SPS's arrived today at my work so I had to be excused to go home and get them in the tank. I have one Green Pocillopora and one Bird's Nest Coral - Seriatopora hystrix. I'll get some piccys up tonight.

I feel this is going to be the start of somthing big!
