My Seneye Review

Thank you very much! :good: I don't use CO2. For the tank in that pic I used Seachem Flourish and Seachem Root Tabs.

I will for sure. I must have skipped a step somewhere, I don't recall seeing where I activate the seneye+. I am sure it will be easy enough to find when I get back at it.

What kind of updates were you guys talking about that Seneye were hoping for before the new year?

Have you set up an account at Seneye.com? The upcoming digistrip will read Nitrites, Nitrates, Chlorine, Carbonate and General Hardness. After the pH update, the slide will be able to read lower than 6.4. You will need to enter the code on the slide to activate it on the Replace Slide Tab on the Seneye software.

Seneye+ is available from the main website I think. The up-dates and additions are the 'digistrip' which will allow you to measure other things like nitrites and nitrates, and the other one is a software up-date which will improve the ph reading aspect.

Look at the very difficult to read tiny blue writing at the top of the page and you can see seneye+

KISS fn has given you more detail.

Yes, I set up an account, but I have yet to enter the info on the slide to activate the seneye+. Does that process sound right to you guys? I am just a little bit busy right now to really sit down and go through it. My son is a week old today, so Im happily busy with him! :good:

So everything is up and running. Pretty impressed so far. I'm really excited for the new digistrip. To be honest, I have no idea what the LUX and PAR mean, but still cool! :D

LUX stands for Luminous Flux and is the amount of visible light present. For example Sunrise is 400 LUX whereas direct sunlight is 32000-130000 LUX. PAR stands for Photosynthetically active radiation designating the spectral range (wave band) of solar radiation from 400 to 700 nanometers that photosynthetic organisms are able to use in the process of photosynthesis. Used for marine corals typically. In a shallow area of the ocean the light intensity at noon might be 800 PAR units only to drop down to 200 units as a cloud passes and then jump back up to 800 again.

Ya I had a very basic understanding of what they meant. I should have been more specific and said that I have no idea how to interpret the data, and how its useful for me and my freshwater tank. I guess it can be helpful to know and understand the data more since I have a planted tank?

It can let you know when your bulbs need to be replaced. The older they get, the color spectrum produced changes and may promote algae. Some people replace their bulbs every 6 months to a year. We'll know if they last longer or shorter than that.

Well I am beginning to have my concerns. I thought that the Seneye was reading a bit low on the temp side, so I put in two other digital thermometers, and according to them it is. Unfortunately, I am also getting three different temp readings from three different devices. The Seneye is the most unique reading, the other two similar. The pH seemed a bit high as well, so I took a reading using the digital meter from our hot tub. According to it, the pH is considerably lower then what Seneye is reading. I did put a bit of pH down in the tank, but I don't want to get to carried away in case the Seneye is lying. It is a useless gadget to me if I have to just use the data as reference and guess the actual parameters. Once I have a non-color blind helper, I'm going to take a water test and see exactly where we are.
