My Own Private Fish World

ok after I charge my camera, I will take some pics of the tanks as they are.

I have never really done plants in my tanks but 2 outta 3 that i really planted here also are having some issues with a brown algae which showed up after i planted though ill post the pics anyways. Though I am in the midst of doing the upgrade of a sorts here which will be complete come summers end.

I will leave off here and just take the pics :good: just get ready for a few pics :shifty:

Ok, so here goes, though i must say tonight is my clean the glass night

the 45g corner tank, i used to have this tank so very nice but had ich show up and thought the tank was 60g so when i treated it i wiped it out  i had 2 matching geo pairs in here was able to save a few of the fish but have turned it into a grow out tank where the residents will be going to one of the 100g i am about to set up. presently 2 glass eels, 1 peacock eel and assorted fry and some dwarf gourami. My water keeps getting a brownish color from the wood I put in.

the 100g grow out with jewels and my mated pair of angels

this is an adult of the fry im growing out
DSC06387.jpg

DSC06388.jpg

the 140g catfish tank with some bleekeri grow out, again the wood is making the water brownish, I will be adding some substrate in the next week or so

DSC06382.jpg

DSC06383.jpg

i just added 6 more cuvier bichir for a future tank here so there are 7 in this tank all under 3 inch
DSC06358.jpg

since this is my catfish tank i planted these bad boys in there, there are a few but they hide quite well

and with them its always a game of follow the leader makes for a fun tank to watch
DSC06347.jpg

these are 2 tanks i picked up on the weekend the smaller is 98 us gallon the bigger is 118 us gallon, im gonna have my glass guy remove the front and sides on the 118 and redo them with new glass and use the old glass to do euro bracing
the 98 just needs a good clean with vinegar and maybe a reseal with fresh silicone

DSC06381.jpg

DSC06362.jpg

this is the display case that i picked up as a freebie it measures out at 365g in volume, my glass guy is gonna use the frame and redo it with glass so it will make a killer tank 72 inchx 30 inchx 36 inch with a slanted front should make a killer display tank, it should be done in about a month
DSC06304.jpg

DSC06303.jpg

second part since it was to long

this is a 80g bowfront marineland pond system with a 35g biowheel sump on the back which i got by trading a parrot for it, it's gonna make a killer sw tank that im gonna move to where i have my zebra tilapia

DSC06380.jpg

this is my 180g which i set up as a temp home for some of the fish that i rehomed which saddly is one of the sidetracks that comes when you buy other peoples tanks, in about a month i will have 3 more tanks up here and some of the fish in this tank will rehome in them. I just wish my camera was better or the fish would slow down so i could get better pics

DSC06375.jpg

DSC06376.jpg

DSC06379.jpg

This is my 75g where I have full grown green terror who is a big pussy cat , and some christyi and a few rehomed cichlids, o really think that red zebra cichlids are evil, this tank is the main one that is giving me the issue of the algae since i put the plants in and the plants were a waste as the fish keep ripping them up

DSC06372.jpg

DSC06374.jpg

third part due to length will come next

it wont let me post part 3 lololol

ok lets try this again :shout: :shout: :shout: :shout:

well i guess yall dont get to see my 65g private tank here or my sw from home perhaps ill try to repost it later since it wont let me post the rest says to many images

Hi chefjamesscott :)

It's looking good so far.

I think this board is programed to stop people from making too many posts in a row. Let's see if my post here in between them helps you out. :D

ok lets see if this works here is part 3

this is my back office tank where i keep bonita, can't keep her with anyone else cause she is a big meany. I tried her in the 140g cat tank all was good for 3 days then all the iri sharks had scrapes on the side so i pulled her an put her back in this tank, one of the new tanks I will be doing will be for her to go front an center in a tank up front, especially since im wanting to move one of my sw tanks here and keep it in my office. From the movement she has been doing in the tank and the fact that it seems an egg tube is down I might try a male in her tank

now I thought I would throw a couple of shots of one of my sw tanks at home, I tried to put some corals in but found that scats are hungry an eat coral

DSC05471.jpg

DSC05466.jpg

i like how my daughters reflection shows in this shot, we have 7 kids which is why we will have so many tanks at home for you know they each will want their own tank LOL

ok so time to update

some of you might not like me for what I just did but I had to do it!!!!!!! I will say what it is when im done this post

here are the pics

DSC07097.jpg

the filter squeeze seed material to live wire the substrate
DSC07109.jpg

topped up and triple treated with seachem prime so as to deal with any water spikes due to dead bacteria from existing media and substrate which we reused from when the tank was torn down five days ago, the expanding cloud is also a seachem clarity treatment to attack suspended particulate

tomorrow will be time for first 50% water change

DSC07103.jpg

the iri sharks who will reside in the 300g
DSC07102.jpg

the pacu who will also make the move

DSC07104.jpg

one of the pieces of wood

ok so here is the bad thing but not so bad since the water is actually fish ready, in my one 75g there is an adult kenyi red terror whom I have moved from tank to tank to tank so as to try to find a home where he could live but in every tank he was the premium meanie. so much so that on the weekend while I was gone to calgary he got busy in the 75g and caused massive havoc. when I saw the beating he had laid on two of my juvi green terror I moved them to my 180g and thought ok should be better but nope!!!

the juvi green terror seem to have gotten really riled up and were starting a fight with anyone an everyone in the 180g , and the kenyi was still at it in the 75g so I am so fed up with the little rotter that I just want to make him swim in sanitizer he actually killed a 45dollar fish before so here is my bad thing I just did

I took the 2 juvi green terror from the 180g and chucked them in the 300g and then put mr nasty kenyi and his juvi kenyi buddy into the 300g so if they want to turf war go to it and allow me to call it a extra measure called fish cycle if they die big deal sorry to seem harsh but the juvi greens were goin after my zilli tilapia, and the kenyi are a fish I have come to hate

The filtration on the 300g is at present 2 rena xp4, I will be adding a power head and double 300w heaters

Just pray Gordon Ramsay never sees this.

I really think if he were to come sit and have a chat that he would really have no issue with it since my wc regime means that water only goes down the floor drain and I have a sink that is totally not in my kitchen that is dedicated as a fish only sink and for refill of the tanks I use a python system so no buckets.

And in my kitchen I use a mechanical chemical dispensing system with the best chemicals that my dishwasher company offers ( which are all green seal certified), so there would be no issues with the contamination factor of having tanks in a restaurant. :p :p :p

As an aside when I first saw the hells kitchen thing on the food channel I immediately emailed them to express interest in coming on the show but I think the fact that I own a restuarant and a catering company was a dissuation of sorts .

These fish are in your care right? So let me get this bit right> you got a bunch of fish that are aggresive, you put them in a tank together to take out said aggresion and possibly kill each other and by your "big deal sorry" comment you don't much care about that as being a responsible action for a fish keeper to take and it's all OK? You then come onto this forum and display this? Just trying to understand the mentality...

Maybe I misread in which case mybad, but this seems a little wrong on a few levels, no?

That's what they all say..

I HAVE TO EXPLAIN BETTER IN DETAIL MY REASONING

actually i have done my best to try to set up these kenyi in a place where they would be well off but the personality of the one adult is very nasty and the juvi is picking up and mimicing the adult.

I have tried for some time to rehome this fish and his juvi counterpart, to no avail. Now the tank that they are together in is 300g and if it is so that these 4 fish can not leave each other alone in a 300g tank then to me it is indeed not a big deal. The adult zebra in particular was placed in a 180g tank and even in there he proceeded to push around fish that were easily 15 times his size. In my books it is much the better off for the many other fish who cohabit in peace to be free of these 2 kenyi trouble makers which by the way I had placed in a sand bottom rock filled tank with other kenyi and still they got nasty.

So you have me right after trying to give this fish a good home after his fifth tank it would seem to me that in a 300g tank that is fish ready he should do well, or do I leave him to get slaughtered by my adult green terror who is now really at the end of his rope with the rowdy tank mate who is really upset at how this zebra has laid a beating on the two juvi green terror i think not, do I place the very upset juvi green terror in my 55 johani tank NO, do I place them in my 75g frontosa colony NO, do I place them in my 45g corner grow out NO, do I place them in my 100g hap 44 jewel growout NO, do I place them in my 140g iri shark catfish tank with my bleekeri NO, do leave them in the 75g with the kenyi NO, do I place them in my 65g with my zebra tilapia who is alone NO, do I leave them in the 180g where I put them to get them away from the kenyi and heal up but they really are messed and upset and are going after the pacu and zilli tilapia so much so that the adult zilli tillapia opened up his mouth to the point that he almost bites the lips off of the juvi green terror ( which by the way my zilli can strip the scales off of fish easy) NO WAY, do i risk these 2 green terror juvi causing harm to my pacu who are trying their best to be peacefull no because if my pacu freaks she has the capability to break the glass on my 180g.

Same goes for the 2 kenyi red zebra answer as well no so what are my options, take them home to live in my 75g adult red devil solo only tank NO, my 75g tall knife, ripsaw cat, dwarf snakehead tank NO, hmmmm do I then place them in either of my 3 sw tanks to get pickeled NO

So having exhausted all options I am left with but one place them in my newly filled 300g which has 3 pieces of driftwood which provide more than ample cover and the water is fish ready due to using existing media and substrate, so I guess I am left with 2 options I take them out with a very fast mercy killing or I try them in the 300g I chose the 300g

But really if it does indeed mean that one of them perishes such is the way of fishkeeping. At any rate I will not allow a troublemaker fish to take out another of my expensive fish :good:

AS AN ASIDE NOTE THE 4 FISH HAVE BEEN IN THE TANK SINCE THIS AFTERNOON AND THEY ARE TOTALLY OVERWHELMED BY THE SPACE and the kenyi have taken to goin under the wood an the green terror have taken to swimming the top mid to top half. Kind of a crap shoot with them but as mentioned in the above part of this post there is no way i was going to allow them to keep up with the behaviour I saw today
