My New 5ft Tank Has Arrived (some Pictures)

Love the pics... congrats.

the tank is looking lovely.

you might want to get some wood for the plec... mopani wood or similar... they like to shelter on it and rasp it... he might also be happier with a hiding place he can fit in. I used to use a section of 4" drain pipe covered in rocks for my plec.

he was like a pig in poo in that!

congrats again. you should be proud of your efforts

just finished reading this from start to finish, the highs and lows, but gotta say that to take on such a big tank is credit to you.
Uhm... the bigger than tank the easier it is to keep it and harder to mess it up... bigger volume of water means that everything is diluted more.

Nice pleco ;)... And I suppose the tank looks nice as well :p...

thanks the tank is my pride and joy. LOL

I have bought a fluval 305 today. Online and it will be here by Mon or Tuesday

If I put in the old filter media out of the old tank will that be ok?

I have also just bought four four inch tin foil barbs and three sliver sharks one of them is 8/9 inch and the other two are 2/3 inch long. I have always wanted them and no problems so far with them :)

Filter media transfer will work fine.

If I were you I'd take those new fish back, they get very big and grow too big even for a 5' tank. Also they might eat your plants.

The tinfoils are a bad idea, they not only get massive but will eat your smaller fish and all your lovely plants. You should really research fish before buying them.

^^ I agree

Hi, there first i'd like to say that i have just read the thread from start to finish and have seen the highs and lows of the development.

I have seen some really great things and am looking at a beautiful fish tank with some amazing fish. I have angels also. They are a wonderful fish, its their interaction with each other and the other tank mates that make them so interesting to me. Also that is a great looking Pleco. Huge but very great looking.
The tank looks very nice, and its nice and big.

Now onto the matter at hand. maybe i missed it but what exactly are your tank dimensions.
IMO your last editions of the tinfoil barbs and silver shark was a mistake, i know its hard to hear but i am sorry that is what i think. The angels the loaches and the latest arrivals along with the pleco could probably do for the stocking of this tank. I understand you haven't bought all the fish you have in the tank ,as some came from your other overstocked tank due to breeding. So first im going to ask you to do something for yourself and your fish and Not add anything more. And if you can maybe start to consider the option of selling some of those beauties to someone else who is yet to experience the wonders of the home aquarium. I know it made a difference to me and my tank when i did it, i was in a similar situation as yours. I just couldn't go to my LFS and not come home with a bag of beauties.

Now i would like to say both good luck and good job. Even with your mistakes and or mishaps your doing great. Great looking tank and im sure your learning a great deal. I know i have

So keep up the updates.

Good luck!!

i have already bought the gravel for when they go (hopefully this week) and i am stuck on what to put in my tank! i was wanting oscars, red devils etc but now i am fancying guppies, plecs, german rams etc! helppppp me decide hun and every1 else! ill keep u posted kk! .x.

Nice looking tank,

You have gone through quite a big learning curve. Please listen when people ask you not to add more fish, I know it's a big problem seeing all those nice fish you want but, you've gotta be strong. It's an addiction, plain and simple.

Hope i didn't upset you by ^

What I would do though with your new external filter is to run it along side your existing filter and leave them both running together. Hopfully you will be over filtered, witch will be better in the long run.

I'm very pleased with my tank and if any of you can't be pleased for me don't bother replying.

I do research EVERY fish I buy

I will not be taking any of my fish back and I do sell my fish to the fish shop if it's any of your business.

And I said I won't be adding more fish to the tank even know how hard it is.

thats a seriously bad attitude 2 have we couldnt care less about been happy for u its the fish them selves that most would be bothered with uve been given advice on fish u shouldnt have brought period if u cant except that u have made a mistake in ur purchases then y share wot uve brought ...as for uve done research i very much doubt it becasue if u had then u would know and have read that the fish u have just brought are not compatible with ur current stocklist

Could we get a new pic? :D Sorry if i upset you with the things i said. I would love to see how its going.

And i agree with the JenCliBee that we care about the fish and their well being. And hope that they always find the perfect home and most of the time when we see something that is not right we speak up. Not only for the fish but for the owner too, buying new fish is great but not when you're replacing dead ones. This is why we can be so hard on people, also if we're not going to tell you and Every other new comer what right and wrong how will you find out exactly want you and the fish want. We've already seen the advice that the LFS gave you and many others including myself.

So please dont take these suggestions the wrong way we really are looking out for YOU and your FISH.

This is a great time to learn and an amazing hobby to get into. I can already tell you that you've learned two of the most important things to fish keeping... LFS lie! and Tester kits are an Invaluble tool! Also a third unfortunate one that the threads are shark infested waters so watch where you post.

Thanks for Posting and Good Luck

Ben
