My high school paper.

When I was at university in the 1970s there were no tuition fees and we got a grant (means tested on parents' income). My elder son went to uni in 1998 and that was the year they introduced tuition fees (to be paid up front) and loans instead of grants. He's still not paid off his loan.

Oh that's dreadful. Yes the means test here is to waive registration free & provide grant. They e been trying to reintroduce fees but met with serious backlash & protests.

Free education is a great equaliser.

The main reason our elder son hasn't paid his loan off yet is his earnings. He's always done low paid jobs and the more you earn, the more you repay each month. The way he's going, he'll reach the time limit and won't have to pay any more. Our younger son, on the other hand, is steadily paying his loan off.

Thai and Asian school are scary, they'll hit you with a big ruler and sometime throw a chalk eraser at you just because you don't know how to draw a buddhist monk and you have to study from 7 am to 8 pm without a break
they will lock you in a toilet and sometime just because you forgot to wear the school uniform and yes, this is kindergarten school.
LOL, sounds like primary school in Australia.

I am left handed and in school they used to hit left handed kids on the left hand with a big metal ruler. They would put our desk against the left wall so our elbow would hit the wall and we were unable to write. And they would put us on the end desk at the right so our left elbow hit the kids next to us. They did everything they could to make us write with our right hand. It didn't work on me though :)

In the England, you have to be at school in the academic year when you turn 5. The academic year is 1 September to 31 August next calendar year. In most of England, there's primary school (infants and junior) then secondary school, (though some areas have primary, middle, secondary). You can leave school at the end of the academic year in which you turn 16, or stay at school (or a sixth form college) for an extra 2 years. If you want to go to university, you have to do the extra years. Though the government is considering raising the school leaving age to 18 for everyone.
It is compulsory for 16 and 17 year olds to be in full time education or have an apprenticeship/ traineeship, it changed a few years ago.

Ouch, I'm sorry you went through that. The ridiculous stigma against lefties really hurt a lot of kids, over nothing!

I'm a leftie too and was telling some people in a chat thread about my grandmother wanted my mother to tie my hand behind my back to force me to use my right (I'm in my thirties now, so the stigma was alive and well until fairly recently. Luckily for me, my mother refused and was supportive) and that people used to believe that the left was associated with the devil, and lefties were forced to use their right hand. They were like "No way! Really?" but you've confirmed it as well now :)

I knew they were talking about it a few years ago but I'm out of touch with the world of education and hadn't realised they'd already done it

@Colin_T is a leftie and a Werewolf/devil  . So that might just be true

Average as in not everyone in 10th grade is that age ? Or is being held back years a real thing , as it’s not in the uk they don’t care if your learning or not ahaha
Average as in most 15 year olds are in 10th grade. Of course, I am homeschooled, so I have approximately half a grade advantage, on public schoolers. :hey:

Homeschool is awsome. I went to public school for my freshmen, sophmore, and juinor year but am now homeschooled for my senoir years since I only need 1.5 credits to graduate so it doesn't make sense going to school full time.

In Alaska they actually thought about giving left handed kids free college since they said they had a "learning disadvantage".
