My dad used to have a really nice 2ft tank with 1 zebra pleco and some neon tetras.
Now he has a 15 gallon hexagon tank(like mine) with:
-2 common single tail goldfish.
-1 shubunkin.
-1 mirror carp!
This is really bad because the shubunkin had cysts all over his head and the mirror carp has a very badly deformed tail from stunted growth!
He also has:
A 5 gallon tank with:
-2 neon tetras.
-1 common pleco.
-1 angelfish.
And:
A biOrb with 1 fantail goldfish in.

Please tell me what i can do! I've tried talking to him and telling him these things and the reply i got was "well look at how long we have had them, they are surviving aren't they?"

I will get pictures of 2 of the tanks up tommoz.

I know nothing about cold water but...

A common plec in a 5 gallon? With an angel? In a 5 gallon?

There are no words.

oh my that is bad

tell him this - - "Surviving is NOT THRIVING"
a person can survive homeless - thats not thriving is it?
a person could survive locked in a room with barest necessities....thats not thriving is it?

neither is a fish in such awful accomodations! I hope he listens to you!!!

you could also try printing up care guides on all the fish, and highlighting the Minimum gallon requirements :good:

Difficult situation,go out and remove them, then say they died, or unfortunatley youve said so now have to leave it,its hard i know but not everyone thinks like us....My wifes aunty was the same they had two goldfish and two angels with aload of tetra's in a 1.5ft tank..but i tried for a month daily, they would not listen just laugh at me...ohwell

I could say that the little missus(half sister) poured too much de-chlore in and killed them..... :shifty:

I don't know what to do.. :(

People who THINK they know what they're doing are a pain in the vertical smile!Just wont be told they are wrong
Can you just risk an argument and get things sorted in the tanks while he's out?

I know exactly how you feel. I work at a LFS which most of the customers are highly misinformed from elsewhere and tell me about how they have these tiny setups with many goldfish and angels. I tell them the truth and they give me the logic of they fit in there any swim "happily". I blame the fish industry which portrays horrible things such as illustrations of goldfishes in bowls, instructions on bowls to change the water for the Betta every month. So newcomers into the hobby generally follow these instructions which are completely wrong as well as the advice of employees at LFS which do not know what they are speaking of. I wont further into other things that i see that are done wrong to avoid writing a large essay. But I do hope one day the general public understands fishes and gives them the same respect they give a dog or a cat :)
