My 10gal Nano Diary

nothin new to update on really. just wanted to "bump" this so it doesnt get "lost". anyway the fish have been clear of ich for a while. im now just waiting the long 5-6 weeks before i try to put my fish back in the main tank. the only prob i have right now is trying to get my green clown goby to eat.

i do have one question for you guys. do you think i could set up a 2.5 gal pico just for my clown goby. this way he wont have to compete with any other fish for food once i can get him to eat. right now i have to keep him in a breeder net in the quarantine tank to make sure my clown doest "steal" any of the food.

Minimum tank size is 10 gallons. I think a 2.5G...well...it would survive, but, it's small. You're better off with some inverts in a pico that small. SH

thanks SH.......maybe ill set up another ten gal nano just for the goby then......

demonmagus: heres my tank specs:
10 gal
lighting: right now just 15 watt standered florecent, bulb is a 50/50 or 10,000k.....i switched em but dont remmber, ill check after school
circulation: 1 power head(provides 175 gph)
and 1 filter(provides 80 gph) with chemi pure in it
skimming: a delux prizm skimmer with carbon in the media chamber
15lbs of live rock and 10lbs of live sand
current stock is 3 astraea snails, 3 nassarious snails, 3 hermits, 1 feather duster(along with several small ones that were hitchhikers), and 1 zooanthus frag that has doubled in size since i got it.......my mom keeps comenting on how big it looks compared to when i first got it. i did have a skunk cleaner shrimp but sadly i found him dead when i got home from work last night. and i have a true percula clown and a green clown goby that are in qt for ick(theyve been in there since the day after christmas). in a week or so im going to try introduceing the clown back to the tank. oh i just found a class anemone(SP) in my tank.......i hope its not gonna cause trouble.

I suggest you stop adding things to the tank and leave it to settle down for a couple of months. Keep up with water top-ups and do a couple of small water changes then just let the live-rock do its stuff and for your water quality to stable out.

You shouldnt be adding fish with any trace of nitrite or ammonia in the tank, which i notice you have, yet you are still adding fish.

Theres no point adding stuff just to let it die, so let your tank settle and in a couple of months your tank will be on the right track and you can add something then.

my stats are fine. i just havent posted em at all lately. if you look at the post dates youll see that the last day i posted the stats was nov 22 last year(if i looked correctly). since i have added to fish lately(about a week in between each) i probly had a small ammonia spike but it hasnt affected the inhabbitants and i will be leaving the tank alone for a bit and all i plan on adding now is a few more inverts and corals and maybe a few more feather dusters.

I havent really updated this in a while. All the fish i had during the ich treatment died in QT except the clown. I have put the clown back into the main tank and got another clown for him to be friends(and possibly pair up with). Both are true percs and are doing great and get along well.

Total stock now is: 2 true percula clowns, 1 hawaiian feather duster along with several small ones that were hitchhikers, 1 zoo colony, 3 hermits, 3 astraea snails, and 3 nassarious snails.

ALL of my equipment is: filter with chemi pure in it(provides 80 gph), power head that provides 175 gph, Prizm Delux protien skimmer with carbon in the media chamber, small air pump with air hose and airstone attached(keeps a film that developes on all of my tanks away), and 1 standered floresent light on a glass top(15 watts 50/50 actinic and 10,000k light)

To come in the future: MAYBE 1 turbo snails, 1 skunk cleaner shrimp, and 1 emerald mithrax crab, maybe another feather duster or 2, and lots of corals once I upgrade my lighting. Im thinking about zoos, mushrooms, toodstoal mushroom coral, kenya tree coral and such.

Tonite Ill test my water and post the stats.

another update. i lost my one of my clowns. the other suddenly turned vicious and started acting the other. i seperated the one being attacked and it died a few hrs later. then i had a melafix incident. it supposed to be reefsafe but none of the inverts liked it. so i had to lots of partials and add carbon to get rid of it. all is good now. the stock now is: 1 true perc clown, 1 yellow clown goby, my cleaning crew(1 turbo snail, 3 astraea snails, 3 nassarious snails, 3 hermits, and 1 arrow crab), my zoo colony and the hawaiian feather duster(along with the hitchhiker ones). im thinking about adding a skunk cleaner soon.

Sorry to hear about the loss :(
Cleaner shrimps are just as fun to watch as your fish so i'd say go for it if your params are fine.
