Motoro Stingray Journal

wow you have had a hectic few months mate, i hope you get sorted asap.

Keith unfortunately didnt go to a forum member as much as i prayed for that to happen he is now in Northamptonshire

ive just had a decent offer on the ornatums today and accepted so all being well and the guy goes through with it i will have more tank space available.....

more great news for the female motoro is that she has eaten a few chopped worms today after a few days of refusing them :D :D :D :D :D so she is now eating worms, mussel, prawn and bloodworms when it suits her :/ im much happier now she is getting a mixed diet. ill keep persisting with the dry stuff and fingers crossed they will both take to them.

ive also had plenty of interest on the BGK from the forum and AC and with that gone and the ornatums gone from the other tank ill move the angels from the ray tank and add the rainbow cichlids from the ornatum tank in with the rays.

So the Rainbows are now coming in here? Didn't i say that like 2 months ago or something? LOL!!!

Glad things are working out for you a little more matey with them feeding etc. :)

Retics are gorrrrgeous! I loved them so much more then the motoros and unknown potomotrygon species i had!

When they both succumbed to god knowss what, my heart broke when i lost my two, will never keep rays again :( Poor Steve and Shirley :(

But the retics, once feeding!! are ace! Knowing they dont get quite so big is such a weight off the mind (one you dont even know is there lol). Knowing how big motoros get but not truely appreciating it...

My retics ate everything from all frozen foods, courgette, and flake and any pellet i put in the tank, The only stuff they wouldnt touch was live stuff inc shrimp!!

the BGK has been sold on today so hopefully my rays will get a much better share of the food now...... :)

the female ray has eaten hikari pellets tonight :band:

the male still wont touch them but if he observes the female eating them he might start. fingers crossed

any update on the pellets mate? any new pics? id love to keep motoros beautiful fish they are

Hi Simon. yes the male tried pellets this morning so hopefully thats both of them hooked :hyper:

pellets for breakfast and a meaty treat for dinner at the minute.

ill get some new pics up soon mate :good:

once the angels have been transfered to their new home i will be wanting something to add to the top half of the tank. this may only be a temporary fish until the rays get bigger but i just need something for now to fill the tank a bit.

the obvious fish would be an arowana but im so tempted with a spotted gar after seeing one at an lfs  stunning fish thats a bit different. lets hope its still there when the angels have gone :hey:

a few phone pics to show the females fat belly after eating plenty of earthworms tonight. she has grown a bit too since the last pis :good:

just realised ive already posted this pic.

sorry

ive transfered 4 of the angelfish from this tank into my other tank and the remaining 4 will be moved on friday or saturday to give the filters time to catch up with the new bioload.

mmmmmmmmmmmm what to replace them with...........?????????????????

there is a stunning spotted gar locally but the only thing putting me off is that it will get quite big and with the 2 rays growing well the room may run out a bit too soon. it would be nice to have it for a while though :hey:

any other suggestions for the top half of the tank?

Large barb shoal? Should be fast enough to avoid rays if you get them big enough!

Spanner Barbs, Arulius Barbs (you never see them fully coloured in shops which is a shame!), Denisonii Barbs, Maharaja Barbs, Filamented Barbs (i saw adult coloured specimens in MA@St Albans a year ago this month and they were amazing! I want a large biotope for them and my Etroplus canarensis one day!

Butterfly fish? Not fast though, not sure if rays would nab then...

Some more mild mannered cichlids? though they would be lower in the tank...

Eels? A good sized eel would be cool!

hmmmm....

Ctenepoma acutirostre (Leopard Bush Fish) fairly shy/slow moving though can move bloomin quickly and get to a really good size!

i had a group of arulius barbs in with my oscar and they were stunning but hard to find.......

filament barbs are gorgeous when adult but again hard to come accross round here for some reason!

not sure about an eel. wouldnt it be mainly at the bottom though?

i think ill have a look round and see whats available. good excuse to visit lots of lfs :hey:

a few newer pics of Flo my female ray. compare the pics to my sig pic and you can see how much she has grown....
