hi simon, i think they will require something like a 6x3x2 as these rays do get big in time.

i have also added 8 F1 leopoldi angelfish today as dithers. they are still juvis but too big to be eaten.... i hope!

Uh uh.. bigger for motoros! :( Reticulatus would be ok... but think motoros need much bigger, people keep them in tanks way too small...

8 x 3 x 2.5 is absolute minimum i would recomend for an adult... hard to appreciate until you see adults when they are a good few years old...

the local maidenhead have a breeding pair along with geos and a bgk in a 4x4x4 cube which seems plenty big enough.

here are a few poor quality pics of the new F1 leopoldi angels.

Being adult rays doesnt necessarily mean they are fully grown and lots of people confuse that...

I had a young Potomotrygon Sp (similar to Motoro but black and looked line Prina sprinkled on him!) and his disc was 30cm but with his tail he was 55cm...

If he was 55cm length nose to tail with a disc size half what they get to... at half grown he was already 2ft, any more and he'd not be able to turn about in a 3ft....

And they are so active given the space.

I think 4x4 is bad.. anothr MA or not, but it doesnt mean to say its permanent for them... shops can change or rehome much easier... which shop is it btw?

its maidenhead in stapleton near hinckley. they have had the rays in there display tank for years.

ive tried them on cockles and krill today with no success

a bit of good news though the angels seem to have settled in very well and are feeding well :good:

Nice one Matt, you can tell the quality! :) I bet they have livened the tank up a little!! :D

yeah they are excellent quality fish mate and look great in a group of 8 :good:

need to move the BGK on asap now as its eating everything..... i never saw it when Keith was in the tank now its become a pain

still having no luck getting the rays to eat anything different

the female is very persistant even after going 3 days without food....so i gave in last night and bloodworms it was.

ive now offered prawn, cockles, krill, mussel, discus mix, peas along with loads of dry products like prima, hikari gold, massivore, carnivore, new era pellets, new life spectrum pellets, algae wafers etc etc with no luck.

the female is still a 100% bloodworm girl and the male will take bloodworm, prawn and mussel.

ill keep trying but i dont want to keep starving them for 2 -3 days as that cant be much good for them i guess either

its been a week since adding the angels and they have settled in very very well. i was slightly concerned because they came from real soft RO water with auto daily changes on the set up.

it seems a good lengthy acclimatisation was successfull :good:

and even better news all have survived the jaws of the rays, BGK and megaladoras :good:

have you tried making your own food? i did it with mine to get them feeding. Really simple to do, grab some of the food they're currently eating and stick it in a blender, mix in some pellets and some agar agar power and it should turn to a jelly texture. Put this in some ice cube trays and pop it in the freezer. Works well for weaning any fish of live food etc.

It'll make a mess putting things like garden worms in the blender and obviously you'll have to make sure the mrs doesnt find out what you've been using it for lol.

As for the tank size you'll need to do a fair bit of upgrading, the problem you'll come against if you plan to sell when they get bigger is that not many people will take them. Have a look into Marbled motoros as they generally don't get as big, still need a big tank though. Better still go with Scobina or Hystrix (these crop up from time to time) as mentioned previously my female marble motoro was pushing it in my tank which is 30" wide so for normal motoro you'll need much bigger.
