Motoro Stingray Journal

Good ideas i think!

Persist though, rays are stubborn devils but once they 'break', its all fun and games.

but tonight is refusing everything even bloodworm.....

just when i thought i had cracked it as well!

the motoros in Hinkley MH are about 20" disc we were going to buy them last year but couldnt justify the £500 asking price. I was gutted because on our next visit the female was heavily pregnant with quite a few pups

I have two females and one male at the min, smallest female only ate bloodworm for 2 months then she just seemed to follow suit with the bigger rays and eat mussels, prawns, river shrimp etc. You will be surprised how much food they will eat the male in my tank looks like he is heavily pregnant every time he feeds. he has gone from 4" disc to 12" in around 4 months.

 bringing back memories of Frank...... i wonder where he is now.....

LOL! You should have had a tracking device fitted to him so you knew which pond he had been transfered to...

:D

the female is happily eating prawn and mussel now. what a relief.......

the BGK really has to go soon as its a greedy begger and munches everything before the rays get to it so im feeding loads to compensate at the minute

Blimey, i have a two month siesta from the forum and Matt and David's stocking changes vastly again. Well, these latest additions are simply majestic Matt. You got anything for sale soon so i can buy it and pop over lol? Nearly bought a juvi reticular ray the other week, but i was sceptical about it only reaching 14" disc size.

Have i read this right aswell, has Keith gone gone? I've missed so much, i feel lost haha :p

Hi mate how ya doing?

yes Keith has gone as he was in with the rays and started to get a bit too interested in them :grr: so couldnt risk them together.... it was a sad day when he went but i saw the tank he was going to and it was a good size and not fully stocked so im sure he will be happy in there.

im actually selling my ornatum group if your interested? also when they go ill be starting a new set up so pretty much everything in their tank will need to go too :hey:

these rays are stunning mate and it was a real trial and error with them which could have been an expensive experiment but so far so good. its been and still is a mission with the female as she seems to be a fussy eater. strictly bloodworms only until recently and now its strictly mussel with a bit of prawn..... women hey!!!!!!!! the male isnt as fussy but wont touch dry foods.

when they get too big for my tank i will either talk the mrs round to a new tank or have to move them on. hopefully with the knowledge that i can look after a ray and if a tank upgrade isnt possible ill look into smaller species. these were a bit of a bargain hence the reason i went for them and im so glad up to now that i went for it.

if your passing or want to call in for the ornatums :hey: (ill do you a good deal) then your welcome to have a nosey if you want. ill get the kettle on for ya :good: good to see you back on here too mate there seems to be loads of new people and lots of the oldies seem to have dissappeared....

Uhmm, been a rough 3 months, but after this weekend life will be back on track hopefully...

Yes, i think i did catch the ornatums sale thread, and how does olly murs sing it,"my heart skip skips a beat". Ornatums, temptingggggg. I've literally just got rid of ALL my fish today and closed my big tank down. Only temporarily untill i get into the new house this weekend, as i've been living on a single matress with the missus at me mums for 12 weeks. Long story, and a living joke, but the worst is behind and into the new place Saturday. New planted tank commencing soon after hopefully. Will only be having the one tank this time, and i'm thinking planted, with smaller fish and shrimp. So don't think the ornatums would be ideal companions. Nevermind aye.

Well it certainly seems like you've had a complete stock change around, then again so am i :p Same to see Keith go, is he on the forum still or was it a sale away from TFF?

I've had a catch up on this thread after coming across it, and certainly seems like you've had your trials and tribulations with them. I'd be freaking, its like walking down a cliff in the dark with new and expensive fish, especially when they come with a reputation for being fussy and temperamental. You don't know whether your going about it the right way or not, even with advice your still thinking to yourself, "Please work, please work", haha. They seem fine, getting better as time goes on, much in the same way your ornatums have been. As for tank upgrade - Yeaaahhhhh, blimey. You'll be moving the kitchen upstairs soon to leave room for a whopper tank. Ideas? Aye,.... ;

An unplanned absence from the forum, due to housing issues and lack of internet connectivity ect ect. Hopefully back up to usual activity in the next week or two. I have been quietly reading for 2-3 days now in the background and noticed a fair few familiar faces missing, but i'm sure there are plenty of new ones i'm yet to encounter who are as equally fab as those who have drifted off.

Itching to get my own new journal going now....got me thinking of Potamotrygon Reticulata's now :p

....
....
....

And if, IF, my planted tank go belly up, and a BIG IF the ornatums are still with you and possibly being sold. I'll have to chew my own lip off, then possibly enquire :p
