Minnnt's South American Puffer Tank

Balansae, undulatus, bullosa and petchii should do nicely.

IMO

Reasons? :D

Right. Added a couple more pieces of wood and the Hygrophila Polysperma kindly donated to me by tanksalot. It's in the back corner so hopefully IF it grows then it should fill a gap. Also added the Limnophila Sessiliflora also donated by tanksalot. Added that more towards the front so it gets some light until it has established then i will move it towards the back if i feel the need. Hopefully the Elodea will shoot up a bit too.

I've banked the right hand side of the tank up over the end of the wood and moved the Pogostemon Helferi accordingly. Gives it a nice feeling now. The moss has already fluffed up and looking like it needs a bit of a trim.

Hoping to pay a visit to the MA at East Bridgeford over the next few days to get a few pots of Crypts etc to infill around the tank. May also get a few pots of Java Fern if they have some nice ones in. Also got £20 to spend at Wharf Aquatics, so will add a couple of quid to it and get another 6 pots of Tropica plants of some sort... Who knows what... Possibly thinking that more of a controlled jungle scape would be best for the puffers to keep them occupied? The new wood and rock arrangements have created a few more nooks and crannies for them to explore.

Mulling over adding a small powerhead of some sort so they can play in the current...

Will get a picture either later on tonight or tomorrow when the water has settled.

Funny you mention that, I put my spare Koralia nano in the puffer tank yesterday and the F8's have been having a great time surfing the current :good: they are both battling over who gets the best spot in front of the PH

MA at bridgeford has gone under Minnnt, just to save on the petrol...the MA Landmere Lane Nottingham, NG12 4DE did have a few nice pots in when i went at the weekend.

yes it is, and they have more in. I decided against it again. It was an expensive lesson...infact having an open topped tank has cost me an arm and a leg! I'm down to 2 Rosy Tetras.

anyway less about my tank...

they have a wicked fish choice in that MA at the moment. They had some Emerald eyed rasboras @ 5 for a fiver! They were really nice as well.

ps, nice pics.

well, you asked...mixing wood isn't really the best thing to do in a scape. I/Amano prefer all the same wood, it makes a scape look more natural. It is your tank though and you are the one looking at it. The planting at the front is really well done, in fact you plant skills are great, it you spent a little money on some decent hardscape you would be sorted.

Good point, thanks. That's the kind of help I want and need. Never really thought of that! I guess the same goes for the rocks aswell? I will see what the lfs has in. Any thoughts on extra plants? Maybe another 3 or 4 pieces of the redmoor type wood would do?

reading my posts back tonight...i seem to be missing letters off of words! (been up since 0400 this am)

What would i do...i would look for tall bits of wood, whether that be more redmoor or taller bits of bogwood. It's a pity you arn't closer to me as i have some really good Aquajournals you could borrow, they have some great advise from Amano about using hardscapes

the same goes with the rocks. It does make the whole thing look more nature like. Which is what most of us aim for.

Ok, well I guess I will go and have a look and try again then... Mbooooona seems so appealing right now... :grr:

How about, no wood... :hyper:

Glad to see the cuttings got to you okay :D Hygrophila "Rosanervig" is my new favourite plant - most stems seem to go rushing to the surface as fast as they can, but this one is less apically dominant and sideshoots readily. I nip the tips out to encourage even more bushiness. You'll need a fair bit of light to get the pink colouring, but it's pretty even without.

This is really coming on but I agree with what's been said about the wood - better to stick to a single type. Looking forward to see what you come up with :D

#41#### Minnnt your tank is...well..MINT!, makes mine look like a muddy puddle
