Minnnt's South American Puffer Tank

Just found it i think... Endor?

Totally amazing! I think i will be going to get some Mopani today! :D

Endor is one, but she also did one in a 36 gallon corner tank, but that was back in 2008/2009. However, I am not allowed to download attachments, and therefore cannot see the pictures. It must have something to do with the rearrangements in the forum....

Yes that's Endor, the one in the corner tank... Liz then moved the plants and fish to her new scape i believe to the Refugees? Very inspiring. Just need to find some of the taller Crypts that was used. Off to the LFS probably Friday as i believe they get their plants delivered on a Thursday evening/Friday morning.

Been and brought myself another 6 pieces of Mopani wood and have kind of put them together in the tank to creat a bigger piece. Really liking it now. I wonder what everyone will think?

Tanksalot... The Limnophila is excellent. The green is so vibrant it's unbelieveable. As for the Hygrophila, that has also picked up very well indeed. It was all curled last night along with the Limnophila, but now it is pointing high! Very impressed indeed, i can't thank you enough. :) I will get some of the moss together this weekend and post it out to you Monday. :)

KrazyKuhli... Thanks very much. It's getting there now, just takes me a few efforts to get there.

Plants on the shopping list are a couple more pots of Crypts of some kind, a pot or two of Pogostemon Helferi, and maybe 2 pots of something different. :dunno:

Will get a couple of pics up again later on when the cloudyness has cleared a little.

Already soaked the wood for about 4 hours in some hot water and the water was erm... erm... brown to say the least... god knows what the water will be like in the morning...

looks loads better without the different woods. Maybe group the wood together a little, something like this...

heres a chap called Ed's, tank...

I would love to see something like this with Mopani wood. I reckon you could do it. :good:

Much better! However, you have created little height variation with the woods. I would either make 2 groups, or 1 big group in the centre as an island scape. And then of course the tall plants for the left hand rear as you planned...

Well, the wood has roughly been in the tank a little over 24 hours and the water is BROWN!!!! :shout:

I can see i am going to be having lots of fun with water changes...

Might just cram all the carbon i have in one of my filters.

Anyway, back to the scape... I have took on board all of your comments, especially about the height thing. I may build up a little more around the filter inlet/outlet, but wanted to create the impression of a root spreading through out the tank. BUT... (you knew that was coming... right?) Please don't forget the kind of fish i have in here. They can get bored really easily so need alot of ins and outs, ups and downs, around and arounds to keep them occupied. So this has kind of been a limiting factor for the scape really. An island scape would lend itself well to this tank i agree, the bow front would be ideal, so i may have to try it in the 4ft instead. :good:

Going to get my other plants tomorrow, i think i have decided to go with another pot of Pogostemon Helferi, 2 pots of Java Ferns, 2 pots of Crypts and then another pot of something different. Unsure what, will have a look what they have.

Will get a picture of the BROWN water tomorrow before i w/c. :look:

i bought some shrimp off ebay from this guy  he sent me that vid to show where they came from and i was amazed

looking great, so natural and clean looking. you have a real skill at aquascaping.

what fish you having in there?

Creg, I have 3 south american puffer fish and 2 otocinclus. Considering 1 more puffer and maybe 5 more oto's as they're £7.50 for 5 at my lfs.

Biulu, you think an island would work better than how it is now then? Would need more background plants though, which would detract from the island surely?

Thanks.

I'm afraid I don't have time to read the whole thread but it's looking great!!! May I ask what type of puffers you have in there? I wish ihad your knack for aquascaping.

I don't think you need more background plants. I would move just one of the bunches that you have on the left to the right hand side, that's all. I noticed that you have planted these pretty dense; are you not afraid the lower parts will die off because of a lack of light?

Thanks very much, appreciate it. They're South American Puffer Fish.

I see your point. Maybe you're right. I may try and split them up a little to increase flow and light around the base. I need it quite well planted though due to the nature of the fish. A scape like Ian's Rebirth would be no use to me in this tank due to the kind of fish i am keeping, hence the reason i am weary of an island scape. But i may give it a go and see, i have nothing to lose.

Is that the species or they're various species from SA?
