Mini Spawn Diary; version 2.0

The "filter worshippers"... apparently there's something in the floss that they think they can eat so they stare and nip at it for hours on end
i have many filter worshippers in my tank, especially all of the guppies...

great pictures!

They are just too cute!
My fry tank with corydoras has many filter worshippers as well. I believe it was Inchworm that said that there are mini-lifeforms (bacteria or so) growing in the spongue of the filter that makes good food for the fry :dunno: Perhaps they really do eat from it

:p erised is right cause like if you breed bettas and have live plants in the tank they will create micro bacteria that they fry can live off of for a few days :p

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooo this sux i have 6 bettas waiting to breed but i cant till i get done detaseling corn its soooo hard to wait :p

pretty babies

Awww, they are adorable! So cute!

I've been following this thread, and I can't wait to see them when they are all grown up. :D

I just can't get over how perfect they all are, even when they're so tiny. It's pretty much the same reaction I get when I see a newborn baby's fingernails  Such gorgeous babies- can't wait to watch them grow!

The little ones were starting to look cramped in their 10 gallon, but I had no more room for tanks in the house. Solution: the storage room of our garage! Temps stay in the low 80's in that room during the summer months, so no heaters are required. A lot of them are starting to get colours, and they ate their first grindal worms today . I put the worms in thinking the largest fry would go after them, but no, I think the smallest out of each group were the ones who ate them. The worms are as long as they are, so they had a little trouble getting them down

I separated them into three groups by size... these are the largest (in the plastic tub)

Yum, worm!

"Look at our pretty colours, mommy!" There are some darker ones too, but I could only get good pics of the ones with iridescent bodies and red coming in on their fins.

They look wonderful and very well-cared for, Synirr. Congrats. How old are they now?

Thursday was their 5 week birthday :)

That's about what I figured. They really start coloring up about then.

Just think...one more week, and you may have to start jarring them! My first batch turned aggressive at 6 weeks.

I can't wait for the jarring! It'll be a lot of work, but a lot of fun too :D
I should probably start stocking up on containers I guess. I've got at least 10 old betta bowls left over from tank upgrades, so those will work if some start getting aggressive sooner than I would have expected.

Well, we've made it to week 6! I recounted them again today and got a whopping total of 190 . This is probably (somewhat unfortunately for me, lol) more accurate than the original count of 165, since they're larger and much easier to see (and differentiate from snails and other debris) now.

I saw the first signs of aggression today, but haven't started jarring them yet. It's mostly a lot of posturing, and a random tiny nip here and there... no torn fins or anything. I'll be picking up some more containers tomorrow, though. I'm using the same Steralite plastic CD containers Yeevia uses because they actually do look very nice and are cheap. I swear the designer had bettas rather than CDs in mind when they created them

I'm actually considering giving some away in the next week or two, but I'm not sure if I should yet. What do you guys think? They handle temperature fluctuations (no heaters in the tanks in the garage) and massive, frequent water changes without a problem, and they're eating decapsulated brine eggs. I think they're low-maintenance enough at this point to give some to some local friends who wanted them, but I'm not sure they could handle shipping just yet... When do you think would be the earlier they could safely be shipped? A lot of my local friends who wanted them would like to take them now even without knowing their colours just because they're the cutest things ever at 1/4th an inch long ^_^

Three of the largest I separated into a 1 gallon so I could put them by my computer and watch them. I love how they interact and posture at one-another. Yeah, I'm a total nerd

"We made some poos for you to clean up, mom!!" Gee, thanks guys.

Speaking of poos... -_-
