well, i have two females and one male betta in a 10 gallon aquarium, (and i also have a heater....it's not really heating up the water>_<, i'm getting the filter soon...so expensive). (and one of the females is new from the store)

The female is always lying on the bottom of the tank and i noticed some colour change from black to sandy brown. And my male fish's tail fins, they used to be like flying freely, but now they're like dooowwwnnnn.

is it the water's problem or something?

anybody know

thanks

clifff

males should not be with any other betta, male or female

females should be kept in groups of 6 when kept together

the problem is you have males and females in the same tank
they are not compatable.

get the male his own tank
get 2 more girls for the 10 gallon to even out the aggression

give them all some TLC to heal the broken fins.

If there is colour change sounds like the fish is stressed, do you have water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, plus is she laying on the botom of the tank on her side.

eee, i gave them the slime coat recovery whenver i change the water (like i just started everyday today, haha, my new year's resolution!), it's in the same mix with the dechloronizer.

and the male doesn't seem to be chasing the females though!...the male is always by the heater and the fish i was talkin about that was lying on by the side occasionally swims around adn looks at the other femlae fish (can they talk with each other???)

umm, why do females have to be in groups of six?

ps : no, she isn't lying on her side, she's just satying there...

There's a pecking order in female bettas community tank that's why it's necessary to have a certain amount of them so that they won't all pick on one female. Even though the male doesn't seem to be chasing or biting the females, he will certainly will in the near future so it's best to remove him.

indeed, you are tempting fishy-death fate by keeping them together
they are aggressive fish after all, and will live up to that as best they can.

hell, one of my males BIT me the other day when i put my hand in the tank. haha.

Okay...i see, all my fishes got smaller lately...I bought a filter.

How do i make them eat? It's so big and they don't see the food and someof my food sinks really quickly (and can bettas eat tropical fish food?)

Also, they are horizontal lines on my females. what does that mean?

Horizontal lines means the females are stressed out!

You need to put a divider in your tank... and keep the male on one side and the females on the other side

You have to seperate them all. These fish sound really stressed out. You can't put a male betta in with females like that. And only have two females in the tank just isn't right.

hwat about more females plus one male?

You can have more females, but the male needs to be in his own container. Do you have a 1 gallon container you can put him in?
nooo no really.... >_<

why can't i put a male with 4 females (like someobody suggested)? to like equal out the aggression?

ANyways, still, you guys didn't answer mi questino: how do i make mi fish eat cuz i have sinking pellets!!! And do i need alot of plants, cuz mi parents wouldn't let me buy zi 10$ plant put the onsale 3$ (that's how cheap theyare, lol...answer meeee)

ANNNDDD< why did mi male fish loose weight (lol, it looks smaller)

so, that's a three part question :D

alors, toujours pas the reponse?

there are 3 reasons your fish aren't eating, one is stress. The male MUST be by himself, if you don't seperate them someone will die, period, there is no way around it. You would know this if you would have researched more. A male will attack and kill a female, its a fact. The person who suggested 4 females still meant for you to seperate the male. Sorry if I sound rude but your fish are in danger.

The second reason is possible because the water is too cold, you said you were having a hard time getting the water to heat up, what is the exact temp in your tank?

Third is water quality, you can take a sample into the LFS to have tested, most places will do it for free.

A happy, healthy fish will eat but you need to get some floating betta food or even better frozen blood worms. They are very slow deliberate eater. Also if the filter is turned on so high that the water current pushes the fish around then they can't get to the food fast enough.
