is it just for bettas
or can it be used on all fish

at wot mixter do u do it and does it go straight
into the tank as ive no hospital tank

and finally wot does it cure?
as ive no idea on Melafix

MelaFix is actually more specifically for fish OTHER than bettas, but it can also be used on Bettas. It is used for a wide variety of things - it specifically works well on bettas with finrot.

What ailments do your fish have that you're wondering about?

Melafix is good for just about anything, since the active ingredient is tea tree oil. I looked it up, and tea tree oil is an antiseptic, anesthetic (mild), antibacterial, antimicrobial, disinfectant, fungicide, and germicide... In my experience, Melafix is great for bacterial infections such as bacterial finrot, but doesn't work as well on fungus. I always use one half or one forth of the recommended dosage when I use it on bettas, since I've lost a few when using the full dosage before :(
The full dose seems like it's just too strong for the little guys.

I think I read someplace that the actual dosage you should use on bettas is 1/5.
I have 2 ailing boys right now whose fins have been shredded up and they're under immense stress because they were OD'd on MF.
I gave them the full dosage for a normal fish for 3 days in a row w/out any water changes in between!

They were NOT in good health but I think they're on the mend.
Hopefully.

yeah, don't necessarily follow the directions on the melafix bottle. regardless of the fish you're treating, do a 100% water change each time BEFORE you add the melafix to your tank. that way your fish will not od on the melafix.

I think you're supposed to give it 0.5 ml per gallon for bettas for wounds/fin damage and infection OR 1 ml for chronic infection.
For tropical fish it's supposed to be the actual dose from the bottle.

the makers of melafix produce bettafix specifically for bettas
Yea, but it's usually not found everywhere. I had to go more than an hour away from my house to a fish only store to get it. You can make Melafix into Bettafix since they have the same main component. Melafix just has a lot more in it. But if you find Bettafix and it is a betta that you are trying to medicate then go ahead and do it with that one.

Bettafix and Melafix are the same things, you just dose more Bettafix because it's weaker. See thread here which gives dosing instructions.

Nope, melafix won't kill the parasites which are whitespot. However, if the fish is generally below par or has fungus as well, melafix will help with this. You can dose melafix with other medications, but just be careful about doing water changes between doses.

You will need to use a specific anti parasite medication to get rid of whitespot.
