Some people say Melafix is great while others say it does nothing
Does melafix work?
How bout Pimafix?
My fish has fin/tail rot and septicemia so i put it on fungus cure and melafix....so I am wondering if melafix will do the trick

A lot of people say Melafix does not work it just smells good....
I have only one experience with it and that is with a betta with fin rot that wasnt even mine. I mixed one 10th of the actual dose and told the owner to do a daily waterchange in the 1/2 gal bowl for one week and add salt as well.
Relly I did that to trick her into changing the water more often... her water quality in that little cup was awful. THEN told her if she upgraded to a slightly bigger tank with a filter she wouldnt have to change the water as often.

All that to say it seemed to do the trick... the fish lived, it doesnt lay on the bottom anymore and its tail grew back to almost its original condition and it now resides in a 2.5 minibow set up.

I dont know anything about pimafix.

I don't think melafix works at all. The word tonic is used considerably when talking about it. Very ineffective,.

I think that corykitty's betta got better due to better water quality and salt. :dunno:

Anyways, when I used it, fin rot went away and came back. The only thing that worked was maracyn.

i used Melafix to cure clamped fins on 1 of my bettas, i used a combination of Mela and Prima fix for finrot on another one of my bettas and it almost killed him :/

Perhaps the reason why Melafix is not doing the job is because people are using it as a cure for problems it can't handle. It's fine for healing up injuries and preventing infections, but when it comes to problems like fungus and fin-tail rot, stronger medication is usually required, especially when the condition has matured.

I thought Melafix IS supposed to be used for finrot and fungus (it says it on the bottle) :p

Like I said, I'd highly recommend it for fungus treatment (in combo with Pimafix).... However, I haven't had to use it for finrot so I cannot attest to its effectiveness for it.

As far as advanced finrot and fungus or whatever, you probably would need a stronger med than just melafix...but, that Pimafix combo is some seriously strong stuff.

Ive used melafix on parrots cichlids as they had fin rot. (Due to someone leaving a dead fish in their tank for a couple of days and the water quality crashing.) I did a 50% water change and a course of melafix and was pleased with the results. The fish are fine now. ;)
