now i have got my tank , and i am now cycling it , i have time now to decide what fish i would like to keep .

i really like the mickey mouse platy and guppies , but also would like a algae eater or two in it when i am ready to stock my tank .

i am looking for any ideas to what i could stock , i like colourful fish

i have a 125litre fluval roma tank

i really have no clue how to decide so was hoping maybe nice people on here would tell me , and how many of each etc ??

Look at filling all the water layers
Top, Middle and Bottom, with fish that inhabit those stratas. Do some research on compatibility and try and aim for a peaceful tank whereby everything get along. That way you will get the full theraputic value from the tank.
I always try to steer away from making stocking suggestions as different people have different views on how their tank should look, Its a personal thing for the individual to decide. Just one tip "Dont buy fish on impulse" Research before you buy and stick to your plan.

thanks for replying .

i have tried researching but it hasn't got me anywhere really as soooo much conflicting info in some places ,

Platies and guppies are both live beares, so they breed a lot. Females can have between 1-60 fry (baby fish) at once, and they do this on a monthly basis. If you don't want them to breed you might want to only get males or females. It's pretty easy to tell them apart. I think most fish stores will take the fish after they're like a week old though. If you want to raise the fry you might want to remove them from your mane tank because the parents will eat them. I rased a batch of fry and it was really fun to watch them develope. Just thought I'd give you a heads up. My friend didn't know this and now she has a tank filled to the brim with guppies and she deosn't know what to do with them.

Going by the fish you like and have stated, guppies, mollies, platys, swordtails, Endlers would be good for community,... you can also add some corys, and plecs..

There are other things as well you can add like neons and stuff (anything community)

Going by your tank, i would stick to about 25-30 fish if you decide to go for livebearers.. and maybe a pleco and a few corys..

If you do decide to get livebearers, make sure you get 1 male to every 3 females.. ( to stop male harrasing them)

or

Just get males only, if you not want them to breed... Getting females only aint a good idea if you dont want them to breed, because they will already be pregnant when you get the from LFS and they can hold sperm packets for up to 6 months (in other words, they will have fry for 6 months with no male present)

Yeah it can be confusing. As Big C said fish stocking is a very personal thing. For example I love tetras and cant stand livebearers so most of my tank suggestions would probably consist of a couple of shoals of tetras, a shoal of cory's and maybe a pair of dwarf cichlids (which is exactly what I have in my planted tank at the moment :) ).

The best bet is have a look around your LFS and right down the names of all the fish you like the look of, then also have a look at the fish database on this forum and come up with a list of fish that you like (don't worry about trying to find out if they are all compatible or suitable yet, just find ones you like). From there you can then post the list up here so people can advise which ones would be suitable to go together and form there you can then find more information about the final list of fish you want.

Just to maybe give you a few starting ideas i have put some stock lists below which I would pick :)

X6 Zebra Danio
X5 Corydoras
X2 (pair male and female) Ram (blue ram or Bolivian or German)
X6 Congo Tetra
X8 Neon Tetra 0912
X3 Oto's

On top of this you could also add some bigger shrimp (cherry shrimp might be ok, depends on the temperament of the rams and the Congo tetras you get). Some snails (apple snails, etc) can also look very nice.

thanks for all the info , it has helped a lot :)
