Livebearers Photo Sharing Thread

Those guppies are guppies Ludwig, maybe "wild" guppies because they do not have the large tails of a domestic guppy. Endlers are much more intense in their coloring like this one.

I've never personally seen any Endlers in this area, as I'm in a somewhat remote location 2.5 hours from Seattle and 2.5 hours from Spokane. It's nearly impossible to get any fish in this area unless they come from a local breeder or were the local Petco mishap-in which case it's impossible to tell where they actually came from and from who/what. From pictures I have seen on the net, I have noticed that Endlers (and I may be totally wrong here, so please correct me if I am) have very defined, VIBRANT colors that have a tendency to stretch in more 'horizontal' patches/lines, whereas these wild-type guppy colors are simply erratic in their expressions and vary greatly from batch to batch/tank to tank. The colors can be quite muted-as you can see in the photo-even amongst siblings and whatever patterns are showing appear more in random patches then what you see on actual Endlers. Could they be a cross somewhere down the line between an Endlers/feeder guppy/fancy guppy. Who knows with these guys. I think Oldman would know far more then I would about the matters at hand. ^_^

If you cross a guppy with an endler and then have the result breed over and over with guppies, the endler ancestry can be completely lost in the younger generations. Most people will never spot that ancient trace of endler in a group of guppies, but that does not mean they would look at all like endlers either. As you said, an endler generally has very strong color patterns and distinct colors while a guppy has less dramatic colors in general. Some of the fancy guppies do have strong color patterns that they were bred to have but they almost always have huge tails too.

My one and only mature male. Fell in love with his colors, not so much a part of my collection as he was a play on the old heart strings. I have no idea what 'color' he is or what variety-probably an all around mutt, but I suppose he serves his purpose well. =]

A juvenile female from the last drop of fry from my newest female. Not sure what exactly the colors are supposed to be, but mom was a boring light tan with green streaks in tail. This female looks just like mom, save she has far more color. Mystery flavor, I guess!

A juvenile male from the same batch as the female above. I'd like to say they're very badly bred half-black greens or blues, but I'm probably wrong. My color and genetic knowledge is wonky and minimal. On a side note, he wasn't very happy when I took this rude and intrusive picture while he was busy.. :shifty:

Those are some very nice looking guppies Aequora. I have no idea what the various color variations are called but I know what I like.

Thanks! I have so many females like the one in the picture that I don't know what to do with them. Out of about 20 babies, only two turned out to be male. Lost the two mothers, unfortunately, but all of their daughters have outdone them in color/size. ^^ I'm expecting some fry at the end of this month/start of November that may be by the mature male above. I'm really curious to see what they end up looking like. =]

I'm not that good at naming specific goodeids but I see lots of them in your pictures Fish48. Are these some of the fish that came from the BLA convention?

thay are my own fish apart from the skiffia multipunctus/ i whent to the BLA convention to pick up 2 pares of them from a very good friend it was a very good show some fantastic guppys and a very good auction. i come back with Brachyraphis rhabdophora and olomina and a few swords .

Just got some nice pictures today. Still trying to get two more female platies but here are my fish so far:

Skillet, Male Guppy. I caught him in a weird sort of turn. I'll try to get a better picture that shows off his beautiful cobra tail.

I also have a pink wagtail female platy and a pink mickey mouse platy, also female

I have started breeding Blue Cobra Deltas and then kinda bred diffrent colors in to find a great color.
I loved how Pyro came out (Ringo dad, Licorice mom) and as you can tell I like the Cobra Delta look of Cobra, Ringo, Scooter, and RJ.

Right now just got a female half black/w blue tail (Mint) and trying to get the blue out of her to see what comes out....she just hasn't dropped any fry yet, but anyday now lol. Other than that, I have a bunch of snakeskins and cobras with mainly yellow tails, but a few with blue. =)
