Little Nemo Diary

how much would they go for? :p

I might be urged to get a few clowns and possibly breed them

( in a years time or so )

PS : I love this Diary. Its been exciting reading it  :good:

For my friends/family i'll be selling them cheap for around $10-15 each, and for my work i'll be selling them for %5.50 each. My work sells them for $20 each.

Glad it's been a good read :)

One quick Question for you ;)

Did you breed them for the money?

Or For the experiance ;)?

Definitely did not get into it for the money, but money is an inevitable part of it all. My mommy and daddy clowns decided to give me the chance to raise their little babies and I took it. I'm trying to get set-ups going for bangaiis and cleaner shrimp as well, Bangaiis because they are beautiful fish which are endangered in the wild and still being taken from the wild for this hobby, and cleaners because they will be a challenge. I could count on my fingers how many people have raised cleaners to adulthood.

Lmao its good to know your not in it for the money :good:

So are they hard to breed? I Read up on the internet there fairly easy to breed.

and like most fish. Do they eat they're fry?

To breed, if you have a sexually mature pair that is in good water conditions and is fed well and has a set lighting schedule, they spawn quite readily. Raising the fry, they're considered one of the more "easier" marine fish to raise, but they still have their difficulties. I'm still working things out.

And yes, they would eat their fry.

Not like finding Nemo Then
I Heard they're fairly easy to keep. Good Fish to start with if your new to Marine? Is that true?

If So. Marine world Im Comming for you in aproxiemtaly 1 year :shifty: Or 2.
Hav'nt decided :p

How much character do they have?

Do they eat from your hand?

( at the LFS the clown fish was attracted to me and i was urged to buy him but saddly i dont have a marine set up :( ) shame :( he kept following my fingure and all sorts.

They have some of the best personalities IMO

I've never tried feeding them by hand, but i'm sure they wouldn't mind. Food is food I suppose.
I've found them to be probably the most trusting of fish. And the interactions and behaviors they display is incredible. Everytime I remove the pot of eggs, you should see the little daddy panic. I actually have to physically shoo him from the pot to take it out of the water and then afterwards he swims in circles frantically for hours looking for his precious eggs.

If you get clownfish, you MUST get 2. The male and female together is priceless to watch. Oh if only our world was like the fish world... I'd have my BF on his side shaking in submission in no time :)

i thought you were a boy till i took another look of your profile.. fail for me i guess lol

Just read your whole thread!

Speechless! Really good reading and a great detailed decription of the highs the lows and the improvements. I will be using this as a reference when my clowns start to breed.

I wish you all the success.

LOL.
So in some degree. The father of the baby egg's try's to protect them?
I Have a Rio 180 ( 48 gallons ) When i change that to a marine tank im putting a few Clowns in :) Hopefully they'll pair up. :good: They DO sound great. Do they ever bite your hand when you put your hand into the tank? (or ar'nt you aloud to do that) ( HINT * Dont know much about marine *HINT* )

LOL Mojo.

Did'nt you watch the video? I knew she was a girl anyway xD.

The daddy will take care of the eggs until they hatch, after that it's pretty much fair game to eat the fry I guess
He is always with them, fanning them to keep them aerated and he mouths the eggs which puts a protective anti-fungal coating on them. He will also remove individual dead eggs. He's quite handy! This is why you want to keep the eggs with him for as long as possible, he does a much better job at taking care of them than I ever could.

I wouldn't worry about two clownies pairing up, as long as you get two of them at the same time and relatively small in size (about 1-2"), then eventually one will turn into the female and they should be happy together forever.

They've never bitten me, but I have friends whose clowns will bite them (esp. the bigger species like maroon clowns) either to protect their eggs, or just for no particular reason. My hand's always in the tank either to clean or move around corals or rock... Just gotta be careful not to hurt anything and not to get hurt!

So here's a picture of the larval snagger now, nearly complete!

All that's left is placing the LED. Tested it again last night and it works like a dream :)
I'll get a video up later of it in action.

:) good Luck with that.

And Ok. Im getting urged to go to marine,

But seems as-if i need to Learn ALOT more stuff before turning marine.

Whas the minium req for 2 clowns? :good:

That depends upon two things:
1. What species of clown
2. Who you ask

For a smaller clown species (like mine here) I believe that a tank of 20G or 76L is the minimum. Some will say more and some will say less, but I think that size would be fine. Of course a larger clown species would require a considerably larger tank.
