He does look mighty skinny. That could be why his spine appears to be slightly curved.

What are you feeding him, how much of it, and how often?

You are right though, he could just be old. Lot's of VTs are older before you get them. Coupled with the fact they aren't taken very good care of at the beginning of their lives...I think it may help shorten an already short lifespan.
